Looks like Votto has broken out of hus mimi slump tonight with 2 homers and 5 rbis.

There was an article they posted on reds.com after the game started tonight talking about how Votto thought his slump was just mechanical. . .

What ever the reason, we need him to hit to have a shot. . .

  • Friggin homerun derby in Baltimore tonight, Stubbs just hit one, that makes a combined 9 for the game, as of the top of the 8th.

  • Chapman struck out all 3 batters in the 9th on 12 pitches. . . Pretty good. . . A lot better than last time we saw him. . .

  • That was impressive. Nice to see No. 54 back on track. thumbsup

Great game for Votto, too. Nice to see his bat coming back around after a mini-slump.

  • Went out for a run during the last 3 innings, but good to hear about Chapman we need him coming back strong!

  • Now the question is can they follow it up today?? Bailey takes the bump after yet another stint on the DL. If he can provide that much needed depth to the rotation, the Reds may be able to start a thing called a winning streak. One can always hope!

    Nope. blank

    .500 team.

Walt sitting on his hands because the division sucks. It's a good news/bad news kind of situation.

I would hate to lose a lot of the young talent the Reds have, but at the same time it sure would be nice for once to see the Reds be major players in the trade market, and really go after "winning this year" . . . another consistent bat like Reyes, and maybe an upgrade in the starting pitching, and we would be SOLID

  • Went to 2 of the 3 in Baltimore this weekend.

Saturday was fun, though with 9 total HR's it did take on more of a softball feel.

Friday night was extremely frustrating...a game of inches here and there and wouldve had the W.

Girlfriend was so upset at the loss and how it came to be...took her almost 2 hrs to calm down (normally thats me! )

Glad we didnt stay for yesterday....she might not have been able to take it!

But first Camden Yards experience was a good one, park is all its made out to be.

General comment(s) about the Reds...........One of the big differences I see in this year and last is the offense and its approach to pitchers. Last year we crushed bad to mediocre pitching and this year we seem to be dominated by it.

I mean if I could make a list of the garden variety pitchers who have just made it look so easy this year, this post would be pages and pages long.

For all the talk of the Reds scoring the most runs in the league and having a "dynamic" offense. Ive never understood it because it is and has been a feast or famine offense, theres no consistency.

Even last year, except last year we were absolutely and totally shut down by good to great pitching, which I can somewhat understand.

But this year has been maddening, and you cant attribute it all to just getting no production out of LF and SS.

And of course being down 3 to 4 runs every game doesnt help either....but thats another rant.

  • Well the Reds win tonight so if things hold to form, they'll lose the next two! We'll see but the mediocrity is driving me crazy. Say what you will, but Votto still doesn't look like himself at the plate Saturday's game be damned. He and Bruce really need to pick it up if the Reds are going to stay in contention.

  • Cueto is pitching lights out again but unfortunately, the Reds bats have decided to take a siesta. Really frustrating year thus far!

  • Tough loss last night, but a great bounce back today to take the series against the Rays. Marty said after the game that playing this well against such a talented team should give these guys a major boost of confidence that he felt they had been lacking. Hopefully he's right and we can go on a good run before the all-star break.

I was kind of surprised watching the game on the Sunsports network down here, the announcers just did not really give Volquez any credit at all. They talked about how he struggled this year, and his surgery from 2 seasons ago, but really didn't mention the fact he was an all-star a couple of years ago, and seemed like they couldn't believe Volquez could be pitching good.

    Maybe I'm just used to watching FSOhio, I don't know. . .

I want to believe but the strange thing w/the Rays is they are a much better road team than they are at home. But taking 2 of 3 and being a fluke hit that dropped for a double away from a sweep is still a positive that maybe will lead to more consistency. Again, it all comes down to starting pitching and the Reds got 3 straight quality starts. I've gotta believe Volquez will get his head out of his arse sooner or later and Arroyo is notorious for strong second half pitching. If Bailey can stay healthy and pitch to his ability, which he has shown flashes of numerous times, then I like the Reds chances to be there at the end of the year.

The next 3 weeks are huge. . . We got the Indians to finish up interleague play, then the cards for 3, brewers for 4, allstar break, then the cards and pirates. . . That is a BIG 3 week stretch. . . If we get thru that and we're still in it, our schedule gets MUCH MUCH easier in August and September. . .

You got that right! The Reds have done well within the division so lets hope that holds up over the next several weeks. Catching the Cards w/o Pujols is a big break, the Brew crew is playing much better than what the Reds faced earlier and the Bucco's have kicked sand in Cincy's face several times this year. Again, they are very fortunate to be in contention w/how they've played thus far and if you go strictly on potential, the Reds match up and then some against anyone in the Central. They are due to start putting some wins together and taking control but they've GOT TO DO IT first!!!!

  • Cozart and Fisher up, Janish and Volquez to Louisville. Expect to see Fisher sent down on Sunday for Dontrelle Willis who will start in Volquez's spot on Sunday.

Really excited to see what Cozart can do and it wont take much to improve upon what the shortstop position has given us so far this season
