A Restaurant that You Want, But Don't Have

  • Comebakatz said...

Texas de Brazil. I wouldn't eat there often because it is expensive as hell, but for a big time special occasion I would hit that place up. 20 dollar lunch and they just continually bring different types of meat to your table until you tell them to stop. Love it.

Their lunch is only $20? That's a great deal. I love that place, but dinner is about $60 a pop.

Bubba's Chris Steakhouse.... Ruth is too damn expensive.

Kidding... Where is a Malone's? I never heard of it. I would love to have another great steakhouse though.

Malone's is owned by the Bluegrass Hospitality Group (BHG). They have locations at Hamburg, Tates Creek & Beaumont. They opened one in L'ville a couple of weeks ago. Their prices are about half of Ruth's Chris and they use the same meat supplier as Morton's Steakhouses.

  • Buca di Beppo is another good one. Huge portions and reasonably priced. Two people could eat off one.

    Does that even exist?

If it were me "top notch" would mean clean. Not sure what he is meaning by top notch but if the place is clean I consider it a nice Mexican Restaurant. All of the food tastes the same whether you pay 5 bucks or 20 bucks for it in the "sit down" ones anyways.

Wrong. I am not sure where you are from, but I have been to several in many states... and I can definitely tell the difference in taste and the quality of food.

Well yeah but it all has the same generic taste to it. Goat cheese, beef, chicken, tortillas, onions, peppers, beans, and rice really can't be made to taste any better or worse no matter the quality.

If I were you... I'd just be happy with Moonlight Bar-B-Q. Wow... I forgot about that place. It's been several years since I went there. I LOVED IT!!! Is it still going strong?

Moonlight is still going strong and getting more expensive, and the food is staying the same (maybe getting worse), every year.

Yea, every time I have been it has been roughly 20 bucks. Of course, be careful to only get one drink or get water. They don't do free refills. Also, you can get some good coupons by signing up online and telling them it is your birthday or anniversary. One time my brother and I went with an anniversary discount. Not sure what they thought of that, but I didn't mind cashing in a bit of my dignity to get a discount. haha

That seems to happen to places. They start living on reputation instead of what made them a tradition. I feel the same about Joe Bologna's in Lex.

Also, a non-chain restaurant I would like is Tomo. It is a Japanese restaurant in Knoxville, TN. I live in Montgomery now and I would love to have one here. Tomo is set up to have regular menu items, but also have fresh sushi. It isn't like a hibachi grill where everything is extremely expensive. It is a smaller place without hibachi. It is open late on the weekend, until 3am, so it is a lot of fun to go out there kind of late and get some good sushi for a decent price. I prefer to go to a place like that for sushi instead of the hibachi style restaurants, but the hibachi style is all we have here in Montgomery.

There is a Tomo is Lexington too. Don't think they're owned by the same people though.

  • Stewarts Hot Dogs. There are 2 or 3 in the Ashland/Huntington, WV area where I grew up. Same Stewarts that has the root beer and Orange n' Cream that U can get at Cracker Barrel, but U can order it by the full or half gallon. May not be a full 100 miles, but I also want a Giovanni's pizza and, speaking of Owensboro, Old Hickory BBQ. Old Hickory doesn't have the buffet like Moonlight, but the BBQ is top notch. Another place would be Pattys 1800 Settlement (Patty's Place) in Grand Rivers down by LBL and Paducah. Those 2 inch thick pork chops and the strawberry butter w/fresh bread, THAT'S good eatin'

  • I relocated back to NYC, so we have primo restaurants.... But some KY things that you just can't get up here. Louisville, Lex, oBoro I miss ya!

    1) Lynaghs - O' Round
    2) Tolly Ho - burned hash browns & big tolly
    3) Moonlite BBQ - Burgoo
    4) Jack Fry's - gin martini up with olives
    5) Ramsee's - mediterranean grub under $12
    6) Lynns Paradise Cafe- Bloody Mary, biscuits
    7) Vietnamese Kitchen - french press coffee & J4 (whatever that was was sublime)
    8) SanteFe Grille - Taquitos
    9) Lilly's - Duck
    10) alfalfa's - hippie coffee & pancakes

    great... Now I'm starving.

  • You guys are gonna laugh when I mention this, but the topic does state a "restaurant" not within 100 miles of where I live, so here it is: I miss White Castle. No lie, I actually miss not being able to roll into a White Castle and snag a bag full of double cheeseburgers. Yes, I can get them in Winn-Dixie, Wal-Mart or Publix down here, but frozen ain't the same as hot off the onion filled grill!
Yes, definitely Skyline, or Gold Star Chili, over Steak-n-Shake any day.
And my all-time favorite Italian restaurant folded many years ago, but I was a big fan of Codispoti's on Preston Hwy. @ Fern Valley Rd. My grandfather and old Joe Codispoti were friends back in the old country. That was a good "Mom-n-Pop" Italian restaurant.

Here is the menu for the one in Knoxville. Is it similar?

I hate to hear that. One day, they may need Gordon Ramsey to come in and turn the place back around.

Hey kao, I think you might have a Chick Fil A hidden in Frankfort. There is one at KSU. Granted it doesn't have the hours of a normal mall or free standing unit but it is open during lunch at least.

Stay away from that if it's near KSU. lol
