Aggie Moving to Wildcat Country

  • Howdy guys,
First off - congrats on your MBB National Championship! Hopefully the Ags can put up a decent fight eventually!

Second - I'm moving to Lexington! I'm graduating in May and starting with Amazon in July. I'm very excited about the opportunity, and very anxious to get to know the area. Basically I've come here to ask about Lexington and the surrounding areas. What is there to do and see? Where should I live? I'm wanting a more quiet area, so likely away from the college. Where should I be sure to go eat? Stuff like that... I'm actually planning a trip to come "house hunt" (apartments?) after graduation and hopefully can find out some things to check out from ya'll.

    Thanks for all you help!

  • Welcome to Kentucky!!! I'm not from the Lexington area so I'm sorry I can't help much with good areas to live. I have been there several times and the outskirts are absolutely beautiful. Rolling hills, bright greenery. There's a castle. I suggest trying to buy that if you can lol And don't wear Aggie gear!!

Why is Lexington in your handle then?

Most of my family in Lex lives out close to Nicholasville. It's pretty quiet out there, but still plenty around that area. I used to live off Richmond Rd. It is a pretty nice area. Hooters is close so if your single you can try for some strange there.

There was a reason but I swear I forgot it. Lexington because it is where my beloved Wildcats are but I ripped it off a show or a movie that was playing on my tv when I came up with it. I can't for the life of me remember what it was though. Carl is for Carl on Aqua Teen Hunger Force. If I remember I'll let ya know.

Georgetown is a nice area. Being young As
You are I would recommend downtown Lexington... Tons to do... Fun areas. I lived in Lexington for seven years, undergrad and grad. Living in downtown is terrific. Amazon on leestown road I assume? It's a very easy drive from downtown. Georgetown is a pretty good drive both ways with gas as high as it is. Probably 50 miles round trip.

Thanks for the info. From Georgetown to the warehouse it's 11 miles, so 22 round trip.

Is downtown really loud into the late hours of the night? That's my only concern, otherwise, I'd love to live in that area.

Not at all. Some campus areas are a bit wild and loud but downtown itself is very nice and not overly loud

Do you know if there are any locator services in Lexington for rentals?

I've found some sites online but I feel like there is more out there... Plus, I can't find much downtown online at all.

  • You may find that real estate is so affordable here, that might be a better direction to go, if you're in a financial position to do it. You can get A LOT of house here for a (relatively) small amount.

    Wow... I see that.

Unfortunately, I don't have the upfront money needed to buy (closing costs+downpayment). I would love to go that way though.
