Rays have gone from Devil Rays to Rays.

I'll throw one out that I don't know the complete answer to--

Name a MLB player who had/has a brother that played in either the NFL or NBA.

    I got two so far.

Jim Bibby, P in MLB and Henry Bibby G in NBA.

EDIT: How could I forget the poster boy for steroids and his NFL QB bust of a brother. Mark and Dan McGwire.

    Thank you.

Here's another--and the only reason I know it is because he was the first Red I ever got in a pack of ball cards.

Who was the first national league player to hit two grand slams in the same game. (it occurred before he became a Red).

Don't know the first National Leaguer but didn't Dave McNally or some other pitcher for the Orioles do it in a World Series games in 1969 or 1970? Seem to remember that from the back of a baseball card.

EDIT: Nope I was wrong. McNally hit a grand slam but not two!

Weren't the Oakland Athletics formerly the Philadephia Athletics?

The Athletics started in Philly, moved to Kansas City and then onto Oakland, but I'm only looking for teams that changed the team mascot name, not the city, unless moving to a new city also brought about a new mascot, e.g. Montreal Expos to Washington Nationals or Washington Senators to Minnesota Twins.

  • I don't think Rickey Henderson did it, unless that's a new addition to the list since I heard it.

Ted Williams was the first. I'll let you keep guessing at the second guy, who came after.

  • I stand corrected. Good call on Rickey. 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s.

    There are three now.

    Still looking for the second...

OK. I just realized the six I was looking at have more than 40 HR for those seasons. There are others. So, may be a broke trivia question.

    DA23_rox

  • Thats an impressive feat. I'm guessing most are from the 30s-50s when even power hitters hated to strike out.

Couple guesses, Gehrig, Williams and Foxx

    trublucatfan

  • That's a very impressive feat. I went to Williams and DiMaggio and both them did it. That's all I can find.

Bonds missed it by one strikeout.

Maris only missed it by six in his big year (amazing)

Yogi's overall home runs to strikeout ratio is impressive, but he never hit 40.

    Gehrig - Yes '34 and '36
Williams - Falls under "yes, but less than 40 homers." - '41
    Foxx - No

    DA23_rox

  • Bonds did do it in '04. 45 and 41.

Yogi falls under same category as Williams: '52 and '56

Dimaggio did in '37. Then did it with less than 40 homers in '38, '39, '40, '41, and '48. That's pretty effing impressive.

  • Others:

    Mel Ott 1929
    Johnny Mize 1947 & 1948
    Ted Kluszewski 1953, 1954, & 1955

Those who had at least 30 HRs:
    Ken Williams 1922
    Lefty O'Doul 1929
    Al Simmons 1930
    Willard Marshal 1947
    Stan Musial 1948
    Andy Pafko 1950
    Ted Kluszewski 1956

I've never heard of Ted Kluszewski, but apparently he was amazing. lol

  • Big Klu is a Reds legend. They had the sleeveless jerseys in the 50s with undershirts. Big Klu had massive guns(for the 1950s) and went w/o the undershirts to show them off.
