Cee Lo Green Outrages Lennon Fans...and Atheists alike

  • By changing the lyrics to "Imagine" before the ball dropped on New Years Eve in NYC.

Believe it or not, I agree with the atheists on this one... his lyrics make no sense and screws up the true meaning of the song.

  • WhyTF is this even news? Does it really matter and I actually agree with Cee-lo on this. Anyone acting like they truly know which religion is correct is silly. Its all based on your beliefs. If you believe one way or another that is fine. No problem. To act like your religion is the end all is absurd.

Yeah, I kinda feel sorry for the little guy... he had good intentions. He just failed miserably.
I agree... the haters are being a bit too hard on him, but I understand their point. He really did screw up the meaning of the song with those lyrics. He would have to change damn near the entire song for his lyrics to make sense.

He would have better luck changing the lyrics to this song:

    Randy Newman - Short People

Short People got no reason Short People got no reason Short People got no reason To live They got little hands Little eyes They walk around Tellin great big...

  • Who cares? A crazy dude switched a word (one word) in a song while playing for a bunch of drunks on New Year's Eve. I don't think he did anything that he needs to apologize for.

    BigTyrone

  • I care. You don't change things that are iconic. If it was "woop there it is" that's fine. If it's a song written by one of, if not the, voice of his generation about something so deep and important you leave it the feck alone. They are John Lennons words. Not his. He has no right to change them. That song is an anthem for some people. The Lennon's should sue and I am not joking. And if they gave permission they don't have the right either. If he didn't like the songs message choose another song ya fur coat wearing lime green clothes talentless fat midget.

  • Lennon sucks. The only version of that song that is even halfway decent is The Perfect Circle version. Screw Lennon Oko and every beatle in between.

Oh blech, I like the Beatles but this is OTT and ridiculous, people change song lyrics all the time, I think Cee-Lo did badly because he came off dumb, not because of his intentions with changing the lyrics. Ridiculous.

War, you have some weird desires, I would think dead people do not make the best lays though I'm not a practicing necrophiliac :P

I'm really surprised that anyone is fired up about this. People do covers and change the lyrics all the time. Seriously ALL THE TIME. Sometimes it's intentional, sometimes the dumb girl I smoked weed with when I was 15 thought Kurt Cobain was singing "grab a chicken bone" when he was actually singing "grandma take me home" but it happens, sometimes they just forget and wing it.

Im all about peace. One well aimed round at a time...Seriously though I detest beatles music period. I never have liked it. No political motivation about that, IMO they simply suck.

I get ya and I'm probably making a bigger deal out of it than it is but I'm a huge Lennon fan and a huge Imagine fan and it makes me mad. That song is one of the only songs I'd be mad about. The National Anthem, Imagine, and I'm sure there are others. If it was a parody or something like that I'd be fine with it. There's a lot of kids that have never heard the song before and their first exposure to it was that troll midget changing the entire meaning of it. I dislike that.

I'd be quite happy that my song from 35 years ago was receiving media attention again, probably prompting a little upsurge in purchases on iTunes and a nice little royalty paycheque, I'd also be back in the media and making some extra coin from appearances and things of that ilk.....

    QueenLizzysWildcat

LOL. C'mon, Carl. You really think a bunch of kids were watching mere minutes from the ball dropping and turned to their parents and said "Yo mom! All religions are true?! OMG~"

It's lunacy. Few people would have noticed if this wasn't sensationalized by the media and random atheists just wanting to be mad about something because they don't believe in a God to blame for their lives.

I'm willing to bet not even you noticed. And if you did, and you were really that upset, I weep for your New Years Eve party.

  • It's an iconic line from one of the absolute greatest. I don't care what the atheists think, but fans of the music have every right to complain. Like everything else to do with music, it's an opinion.

    djkycat54906

  • Having the right to complain is a weak defense. No one is disputing your legal right to complain, only whether it's worth complaining about. You have the right to complain about anything (unless Obama thinks it makes you a terrorist, then see ya!). That doesn't mean it makes sense to complain about this. I don't understand what anyone thinks it will accomplish. If it means that much to you guys, picket something. How about Occupy Cee Lo's pad? Hell yes! I had heard the name before, but I didn't know who the guy was until his Sprite commercial a few months ago. It would take a pretty extreme act by this guy to upset me. You guys are letting him get you worked up over the letter R. R as in Retarded cover of a song.

I have some soundtrack with the girl band Heart covering a Led Zeppelin song (Battle of Evermore), and I would be shocked if they got 75% of the lyrics correct.

I should have said "grounds" to complain. You're correct in that the right is not in question.

But it's also important for you to understand you have the right to pay no attention to the complaints. Or to the music in the first place.

What's going on here is socialization. Cee Lo did something that a lot of real music fans aren't gonna like. He can't be in our club if he's gonna act that way.
