  • Hated to lose on getaway day, but glad they finally got back on track with a winning series.

Now the West Coast Trip of Doom 2012 awaits... Be afraid, be very afraid. scared

Hope Phillips isn't out too long. . . Giants are playing much better lately, Lincecum looked like old Lincecum today, glad we'll miss that. . .

  • Good news bad new for the Reds as they end the month. Leake and Latos seem to be finding their groove and w/the way Cueto is pitching, that is a very powerful trio (potentially) heading into the 2nd half of the season. On the downside, Votto hurt his knee sliding into 2nd on Friday night and was removed from the game on Saturday as a "precaution". The Reds are going NOWHERE if Votto isn't in the lineup or is diminished at the plate due to injury. He is the ONLY consistent hitter the Reds have and w/Dusty's insistence to keep rolling Rolen on to the field despite his horrid hitting, the offense is very spotty.

  • Phillips and Cueto got the shaft from TLR. . . What a douche. . .

They both had to halfway expect it coming. Only thing they can do now is use it as a chip on their shoulder for the rest of the season. Have a great second half, get the Reds to the playoffs.

Phillips I understand because the other infielders have similar #s. Cueto was a snub though. However, I'm pretty sure every team gets a representative for the game so Altuve was a lock for the team as the other 2nd baseman as Houston's only player. Same with Wade Miley for Arizona for a pitcher spot.

  • Cincy fans need to get out the vote next year and support their players like the Giants. Buster friggin Posey got more votes that Joey Votto if you can believe that. There is no reason Dan Uggla should be voted in ahead of BP if the Cincy fans are voting like those in Atl, San Fran etc. Uggla is hitting nearly 50 pts lower than BP and his power numbers are just a hair better not to mention he's nowhere near the glove guy that Phillips is. This one is on the Cincy fans.

  • It is shaping up to be a good race the second half of the season. I think the Pirates are going to stick around this season, unlike last. Reds looking to make any moves/upgrades come trade deadline?

Reds' anger toward La Russa misplaced - SweetSpot Blog - ESPN

The Cincinnati Reds are angry. Dusty Baker is very angry, accusing Tony La Russa of deliberately bypassing Johnny Cueto and Brandon Phillips in making

  • It's already the 3rd of July and the Reds are locked in a good ole fashioned pennant race with the Bucco's no less!!!!!! Not to mention the hated Cards are in the thick of it as well. Homer pitched a whale of a game last night and he was really dealing late in the game throwing in the high 90's (check out the highlights and it's impressive). Gotta get through this road trip w/o falling off the table and going on a prolonged losing streak and hope Votto returns to the lineup soon. It'll be interesting to see how Cueto responds tonight after being snubbed for the All Star game.

    ukaveman

  • Cueto didn't get snubbed. TLR said if Cueto wasn't pitching Sunday he'd be on the All Star Team. Blame Dusty. I can understand Reds fans feeling that way with the history and all but in my opinion it wasn't a snub. Greinke has good numbers and you don't hear his manager crying about a snub. Cueto did end a career with his cleets so I have a hard time feeling sorry for him. And I don't have a dog in this fight. I hate Dusty and TLR equally.

  • Facing Harangatang tonight. . . He's been pitching pretty decent lately, has like a 2.4 ERA in his last 10 games. . . (somewhere in that neighborhood)

  • Bad, bad series to drop. LA had lost something like 12 of 14 when we came to town.

This lineup sucks as long as the 1-2 holes are allowed to continue this way.

  • The Central is back to it's old self for now. Just a few games above .500 and you will win it. That is unless the cardinals trade some of their elite farm system away to get an ace (ranked 3rd now by most publications... I hope they don't trade any of it away) or if Carpenter gets healthy.

The Pirates are a pretty solid team but I just don't think they have the bats to win enough games once pitching starts to break down.

Not sure what Dusty's infatuation w/Drew Stubbs is. At best, he's a 240 hitter w/occasional pop. His poor hitting isn't enough to offset what he brings to CF on defense. Heisey is hitting about 50 pts higher and he's a decent glove as well. Move Heisey to leadoff and move Cozart down to the two hole and you probably will have a much more productive lineup. Additionally you could move BP to leadoff and either have Frazier or Heisey bat in the 4 hole and have a more productive top of the order. Either way, the Reds will continue to be an average team unless and until Baker decides to bench Stubbs (0 for his last 27: OUCH) AND recognize that Rolen is DONE and let Frazier get the majority of pt at 3rd even if Rolen is "healthy" enough to play.

I feel pretty certain the STL front office will make at least one significant move to help them defend their title. I'm not confident the CIN front office will.

  • Reds are No. 4 in MLB ERA and No. 5 in quality starts at the 81-game mark and exact midpoint of the season. That's the arguably some of the best starting pitching I've seen from an entire rotation in my lifetime. Totally depressing that it hasn't led to a 7+ game lean in the weak NL Central.

  • Just don't understand how the Reds lineup can't produce. Between toothpicks questionable lineups to overestimating how "good" these guys are at hitting, this is a team that leaves you scratching your head. I'm coming to the realization that guys like Bruce, Stubbs, Heisey just won't be as good as we all anticipated or hoped. At least Bruce gives you good power numbers but his inconsistency is maddening not to mention keeps him from being a top tier player.
