City BBQ opens in Lex

  • Ate there on Friday night and although it wasn't my first time eating at City BBQ (there's one in Cincinnati) it was really, really good.

BBQ was great not to mention the sides, especially the cornbread (a must). I'm a huge fan of BBQ joints and City definitely gets it done.

Just opened on Richmond Road just past Man O War.

  • Joe B was talking about this place on the radio the other morning. Said it was awesome. Next time I'm in Lex I'm gonna try it out.

  • It is all its cracked up to be.

Have tried all the meats and most of the sides....solid thru and thru.

the one in Florence is our go-to lunch / dinner stop on our way to the Reds each home saturday.

And last Saturday may have been the best brisket ive ever had anywhere....and Ive been to ALOT of little hole in wall joints in Texas that do it up right.

  • I ate at a place in NC this past weekend and it was awesome as well. Called Simms BBQ down near Hickory. Way way off the beaten path. Well the road to get there is actually a beaten path and it is a giant barn that they put picnic tables in but damn is the food good. 10.75 a plate and all you can eat. Only thing is you better go ahead and get two plates cause the line is out the door to the parking lot, literally.

It smells like microwaved homeless people in here.

THAT sounds amazing... NC is my favorite style. (except when the chop the pork and throw slaw on top)

  • Hell man that is the best kind!!! haha. I used to be the same way but living in Southern VA I have came to love it. Nothing like some chopped pork, slaw, baked beans and hushpuppies. You have to have the right hot sause/vinegar mix though. Damn Im hungry...

  • Also a fan of Famous Dave's. Think their BBQ is really good. Plus, their cornbread muffins may be the best thing I've ever eaten on earth.

They're sweet. Almost like eating a buttery cupcake. They're something else. Used to be a Famous Dave's on Richmond Road where the Applebee's is now right before you get to New Circle.

  • Interesting location for this place. It's been a death-trap for other restaurants. Hopefully this one can survive.

  • Love brisket, especially Famous Dave's as far as chain BBQ joints; but my true love is mutton. Unfortunately, I still have to go to Owensboro to get that. Have always enjoyed Carolina style sauces. Can't remember where specifically, but got hold of a spicy mustard sauce with pineapple juice in it. PHENOMINAL.

  • Same here with Mutton. Used to get some of the best in the world down in Owensboro at a little joint called "Georges." I'd get a literal bucket of the stuff and eat those sandwiches for 2 weeks.

You talking about on Richmond past Man o War or where the Applebee's is now before you get to New Circle?

Seems like nothing has been able to survive where that Applebee's and that mall is (I forget the name of that shopping center).

Both. I was originally thinking of the Man-o-War/Rich Rd spot, though. They've had 4-5 restaurants in there. One of them was a pretty good BBQ place, too. No idea why Lexington folks (and visitors) don't seem to welcome variety in different parts of town. Freakin' Applebees and Red Lobster are always packed at Hamburg, but some of these other places never seem to survive.
