Dish network

  • family member asked about dish network but I have no idea. If anybody has ever had dish can you tell me if dish network is any good?

  • I've never had DISH, but I do have DirecTV, and I like it better than anything else I've ever had. I've had it since we moved into our house in 2005, and except for sometimes changing some programming to keep our bill at a reasonable price, I have no complaints. Except that sometimes it can start getting a bit pricey, hence the programming adjustments, but as far as picture quality, sound, and overall quality DirecTV is good with me.
Just check out any packages they have and go from there. It certainly beats cable.

  • I've has Dish, DirecTV, Insight, and U-Verse. U-Verse is my favorite of all and Insight is the absolute worst. Dish and DirecTV I liked with the heads up going to DirecTV.

That actually looks like a really good deal. Anyone here able to give more details about it. Pros/cons/etc?

This should give you some info Jeff. I can't explain some of the technology that it offers but I will say I've had em all and I like U-Verse the best. I switched when I had a door-door salesman sweeten the deal. Some of the stuff it offers is hard to explain but its the most user friendly service I've ever had. I'm not sure where you live but its offered in a lot of places now I think.

Its not even close to as terrible as insight. Not even close. Still I put DirecTV and U-Verse pretty far ahead.

  • I just had to cancel U-Verse. Go in and talk to the local store, not the national toll free line. I was sold that I could have four HD receivers working at once. This is only the case if your house is very close to one of their "boxes". My house is a mile away from their nearest box, so I was only able to receive 2 HD receivers at once. Since a recording takes up its own line, other rooms would automatically go to black if another TV came on or if a recording started. Very frustrating. I live in the middle of Nashville, and I was still far away from their "box". Just due diligence before signing up. I do like the overall format of U-Verse if it actually worked like it should, but I will be switching back to DirecTV this week. The U-Verse internet service was also very spotty. I signed up for the 6 GB, but often only received 1-2 GB.

  • I've had Dish for 3 years now and haven't had any issues. I prefer it over Time Warner Cable and Insight.
