I'm fine with that, JD. I've never actually ran an auction draft in real time, but I've tested it a few times in mock drafts and it's not too bad. Just gotta know what you wanna pay for who. It's pretty fair that way indeed.

I'm not familiar at all with the auction type (or bid) leagues, so include me only if we do a draft order $$$ League. We should be able to trust our commish to pull our names from a hat for draft order (top to bottom, bottom to top... and repeat) until everyone has 16 players on their roster.

Auctions are actually a lot more fair. Everyone gets a chance at every single player, instead of relying on chance to decide their draft order. For those who may not know, this is how it works:

Everyone starts the draft with a certain amount of fake money (I think it's $200, but correct me if I'm wrong). Then, one by one, each person in the draft gets to nominate a player they'd like to see bid on. Now, you can do this strategically (trying to get people to spend money on players you don't want) or you can throw up the guy you want the most and break the bank on him.

Just like the name suggests, whoever bids the most for a player, gets him. But everyone has to be wary. You only have 200 for all 16 or so players. But here's the good news. Most players go for about 10-15 dollars outside of the top 10 players on the draft board. So while Foster may fetch a good 40-70, you could probably get MJD for 15. So it's all about value.

Plus, it's pretty often that in the 6+ rounds, most players go for a few bucks. Some even for only a dollar. In a mock, I picked up Garcon, Benson, Best and Vernon Davis for less than $3 each.

It's pretty simple to do, and most money leagues want auction drafts since you have REAL money at stake. And if you have real money, you should probably want an equal chance of landing AP or Foster, right? Otherwise you could get a crappy spot in a draft order and get the shaft. At least with auction drafts, no one can complain they only lost because of their crappy draft slot.

Regardless, we would have to see how many people are interested in the money league and then see what type of draft the majority wants. Just everyone keep an open mind. There's good to both draft styles I guess.

I must admit, Brad and Derek, you guys make it sound much better than I imagined it. It does sound like a more fair way to draft for a money league... and fun. I will do a mock or two, so I can learn the strategy part of it and get back to you guys.

Yeah, I did a mock and got Peterson for 48, then I got rogers for 47. . . there went half my money, lol. . . I quit after those two picks because I had to go to work. . . I'm gonna try some more later. . .

I was kinda worried about that too. I work some crazy hours right now... normally 2 - 10pm 7 days a week with every 3rd weekend off. You decide what is best for everyone and I will make arrangements to be available for the draft.

Btw... how long does a "bid" draft usually take?
