The first one stands alone. The second is both a sequel and a prequel, so I don't think it would make much sense on its own. Actually the best version is what they used to show on tv where it starts with the part 2 prequel section with DeNiro, then part 1, then the part 2 sequel section with Pacino

I thought part 3 was good--not on the level of the other two, but good. If you watch and like part 1, you can't not watch part 2, and if you like both, you can't not watch part 3--whether you ultimately like what they did or not

Jacker, do you like Wyatt Earp (Kevin Costner) better than Tombstone (Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer)?

1) Goodfellas
2) The Godfather Parts 1 and 2
3) Fargo
4) Schindler's List
5) Clockwork Orange (No respectable top5/10 list can be complete without a Kubrick film)

Other than Goodfellas and Godfather being one and two that list could change daily, or even hourly. And Wyatt Earp > Tombstone on every level. I'm a Godfather 2 guy. I think it's a better film than The Godfather but not by much. I have no beef with anyone that thinks part 1 is better. Part 3 is an abortion compared to the other 2 but it's still ok. Francis casting his daughter was a terrible decision. She may be the worst actress in history.

Mine have already been mentioned.

I would add Braveheart and Gladiator.
