Game Of Thrones - Books Edition ***SPOILERS GALORE***

  • CarlLexington said...

I had the same thought about how season 2 and book 2 were so different. That's why I decided to just read ahead. Those pages will fly by. Believe me. Really hard to put down.

Well I'm finished with A Storm Of Swords. Hey Nate, when I said "I wouldn't be surprised to see Cat come back" were you thinking "Great call!!!"? lol So Littlefinger has Harrenhall, The Eyrie, and has plans to marry Sansa to get Winterfell. I'm just guessing about the Sansa Winterfell thing. I think you'd have to be blind not to see the meaning of Littlefinger helping Sansa build the Snow Castle Winterfell. Dany's little slave is going to betray her somewhere down the line. That seems obvious to me. Maybe too obvious? I'm not wasting any time. I'm going into book 4 right after I take a shit. I don't know what I'm going to do after I've read all 5. I read book 6 will be out this year. I also read that there would be AT LEAST 7 books in the series. The "At Least" leaves the door open for maybe an 8th and maybe beyond. I also heard a producer for the show say "We'll keep making them as long as George keeps writing them". Which also seems to leave the door open for more than 7. We can hope.

Yeah, great call on Cat. I really wish that hadn't happened though. I hate her for the same reasons you stated above.

As for the number of books I believe a lot is speculation by readers because of the number of stories he has to wrap up. Can GRRM do it in two books? I don't know.

Mike, Martin had repeatedly said he wants his characters to be perceived grey, not black or white. He does a pretty good job of doing that with Jamie.

So, does anyone else think the Others aren't inherently bad or they are and the red witches/priests are just as bad? Obviously, an everlasting summer or winter would be bad for humans considering our own world. Could it be the same in Martin's world?

  • About LF and Sansa. His plans are pretty clear at the point you're at. The question for me is to accomplish what? Power and respect? Or is he working with someone else? I don't know anything you don't at this point, but my prediction is Sansa eventually offs him somehow. She's been hardened by her time with Queen bitch, and the Lords of the Vale aren't exactly delighted to see him there. I personally believe she kills Baelish and uses the Vale to try and take up where Robb left off and crush the lions. Although, her "husband" has already helped with that.

Where is Stannis and the Blackfish so far? I don't want to say anything about the latter because I can't remember if it's in ASOS or AFFC.

    Wherever whores go.

One of my favorite scenes in the books. Love how he utilized those gold hands as well. Good job on not giving away who it was.

As for characters, are you beginning to see some of the master plans Varys is putting forth?

I really need for you to finish the series so we can talk about things that I can't now lol.

lol At the rate I'm going I'll be done pretty soon. I haven't seen any master plans by Varys yet. I'm thinking it might be one of those things that they have to happen before you realize it. Looking at the chapters in book 4 I see no Tyrion. Is he not in book 4?

I've been wondering about which side is good and which is evil in regards to the light lord and the others. I've already decided that the others can't be all bad because they represent ice and ice is the Starks. Of course the lord of lights people make a good case for their side being good as well. Just don't know yet.

When Lysa was pushing Sansa to the air door I thought that was where Sansa was finally going to snap and take out all the grief out on Lysa and throw her out the air door. I totally agree that she is going to become hard. She is a Stark after all. Robert is Littlefingers. Lysa poisoning Jon Arryn was a surprise to me.

Stanis is at the wall and Jon just got Commander and is on his way to tell Stanis. The Blakfish is still held up somewhere fighting. I'm not sure on that but I think I saw something about that. One of the only holdouts.

No because of the way Martin split it up. Book 4 and 5 were orginially supposed to be one book. So the first half of book 5 is happening at the same time as book 4. He decided to split them up by characters instead of time.

I really enjoyed the Stannis and Jon chapters. They are pretty similar and Jon is one guy Stannis actually respects and likes. I know some people aren't Stannis fans, but I like him.

I'm not sure I like that. I know for a fact I would have hated it if I read each book as it came out. I would not have liked to wait that long to find out what happened to Tyrion.

I didn't care for it either. AFFC was probably my least favorite book.

As for the books being split up. The 5th is basically all Jon, Tyrion, and Dany. Some Bran.

No Arya? I'm going to dislike that more than no Tyrion. I'm not so sure killing Tywin was a good thing. At least not at that time. I think Cersei is going a bit batty but even if she wasn't she's going to end up turning Tommen from a sweet and nice boy into a mean spoiled brat. That's why Tywin was going to ship her ass off. Now she runs the show. Man I hope she's dead by the end of this book. I'm tempted to just look at the chapter names in the next 2 books to see if she's there lol

I'm reading where Cersei is going to the funeral right now. Lots of paranoid thoughts. I realized something. And it's probably way out there. But what if she does go nuts? The Kingslayer is there. He has nothing to lose. So what if he slay a queen as well? He has already seen one mad ruler and I don't think he'd allow another. Even if it is his sister. A sister Jaime is starting to see the true colors of anyway.

  • A crazy idea. What if Tyrion isn't a Lannister? Here's my thinking. Regicide is the one crime that everyone hates. As in no one would help someone guilty of that. There's no way Tyrion could return while he's guilty of that. So, I started thinking the only way he could get around it is if he wasn't a Lannister or if it got pinned on someone else. Then I thought of a few questions. Remember when the Red Viper was telling Tyrion the story of how he and his sister saw him as a baby? How there were tales about him being a monster with a tail and such? Like a dragon? What made Tywin so angry that he supported the rebellion and ordered all the Targaryans killed? Perhaps a Targaryan impregnating his wife? There were stories about the Targaryans trying different methods to make a dragon. Perhaps it was tried on Tyrions mother and he was the result. They say his mother died in child birth. Did she? Perhaps she was killed to keep her silence. Tywin was found with a whore when he died. Tyrion is a Targaryan!!! Just an idea. 3 Heads of the dragon. Dany, Jon Snow, and Tyrion? Remember how close Snow and Tyrion became?

2 more to add to my death wish list. That insufferable coughing bastard and Cersei's new friend. The hot chick. I forget her name but she annoys me.

Don't recall who the coughing bastard is. I know Cersei's friend, but her name slips me as well.

I was looking through the 5th book last night and Arya is in it, just not the first half. Also, something she says about Jon makes me a little worried for her in the upcoming books. Could be nothing though.

The new Hand is the coughing guy but I forgety his name.

If he puts that little girl through all she's been through only to kill her I'll never read another of his books lol

Apparently he promised his wife he wouldn't. If he does I think it might be at the hands of Jon, as an accident. Or it may be she kills him. I don't know at this point, but I have my suspicions.

Didn't you say you read that TWOW was supposed to be out next year? Just curious as to where you read that.

For the Tywin stuff, that all depends on what perspective you're looking at. For any Stark, Targ, Stannis, other Lannister foes it couldn't have been better. Tywin was bringing peace & stability back to the realm. As Tyrion knows, Cersei is about as mad as Mad Aerys.

So do you all think Varys wanted Tyrion to finish Tywin. The Master of Whispers surely knew about Shae.

There are a lot of things I want to discuss with you all that I can't for fear of spoiling something lol.

Yes I read that. I can't remember where though. Ugh, I hate that. Now don't quote me but I believe it was a site from a fan that was made an awesome map of the world. George RR Martin saw and approved the map. He wrote to the guy and Martin wrote him back and they talked about his map. So it's not just some random guy. I believe it was there that I read it would be out in late 2012.

As for the promise to the wife I think Arya is safe then. Martin doesn't strike me as a dumb man and keeping a character in a story alive is a small price to pay for a peaceful house lol It's ironic that right after you mentioned Arya maybe dying I read a pretty long Arya chapter. It was the one where she hid Needle under a rock and became a novice. That chapter seemed to hint at something not so good. All the talk of "No one" and death. The story the nice old man told her about the first of their order that killed the slaves. It's kind of like she's training to be the grim reaper. I still haven't figured out exactly what she's training for.

It seems to me the death of her son and father is what has pushed Cersei into the realm of insanity. That and the pressures of actually ruling. I think before all that she wasn't as insane as she was just pure mean. But yeah, the death of Tywin certainly makes the Lannisters vulnerable. And they're fighting amongst themselves now which is good. Jaime minus the sword hand helps as well.

Mums the word on Varys so far. Not a peep. So it's kind of hard to judge what he's set up and all. I can tell one of the things you really want to talk about is Varys. This is like the 2nd or 3rd time you've brought him up lol I'll be done soon enough. I'm devouring these books. So far Varys is a complete mystery. A minor player to be honest. There's a book or 2 where he is hardly even mentioned. I know he's not a minor player. I'm just saying so far. I have a feeling I'll be reading a lot about Varys in the next book and a half.

  • I'm getting worried about Sansa. There's been a couple hints at suicide. The way she looked down at the fall from the Eryie is one of them. I mean one more betrayal or bit of bad news could throw her over the edge. Like if Littlefinger wanted to wed her or wed her to someone else. Or raped her.

Yeah, Littlefinger has a sick desire for his Catelyn's daughter. With her wolf dying so early in the series one has to wonder if she's the most vulnerable Stark. Besides Rickon she's had the least influence on the story, yet she is a POV character. This leads me to believe Martin has something important in store for her.

This is why I believe she will be Littlefinger's downfall. I think his lust will get the best of him and either in that moment or right after she will kill him.

Have you read the part where Strong Belwas fights the guy outside the city yet?

You could be right about Sansa. And yeah I read that Belwas fight awhiles back. I even mentioned it in this thread lol I mentioned how I loved that he killed the guy, put his ass towards the city, shit for them all to see, and wiped his ass with his dead opponents cape. That was awesome. Now I'm at where Sam is in Braavos. He met Arya(Cat). I'm wondering if anything will come of that. Most likely. Why else would it happen?
