I've waited long enough...

  • I like Clarence Thomas, Alan West, and Herman Cain.

I hate Chuck Schumer, Harry Reid, and Dick Durbin.

I must be a racist too. You're in good company, JJ

When I see one party, yours, trying to disenfranchise millions of blacks, latinos, young, old voters I see systemic racism. And there is no denying that's exactly what the repugs are trying to do. When I hear many in your partys, rand pau in particular, say they wouldn't have voted for the civil rights act I see racism and much more than idiotic isolated water cooler jokes.

I do not agree with the policies of Obama but to quote H Clinton, "...we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration..." Unfortunately you and the Chris “I felt this thrill going up my leg" Matthews crowd want to paint those who disagree as racist.

There has been only one posting on this board where I identify my political leaning ... at no time have I ever stated I was strictly republican, tea party member, conservative, progressive, liberal, nor democrat.

That you assume I am affiliated with any party is a gross misjudgment on your part. Again, for the record, I am a conservatively progressive independent with strong libertarian leanings. I would classify my politics as independent with a libertarian foundation.

Growing up in Alabama I was a supporter of state wide democratic luminaries in the tradition of Senators John Sparkman and Howell Heflin. I, like many of my peers, admired John Kennedy. While I was in college I was active in the Young Democrats Organization.

My early voting record was in step with the party of Byrd, Gore Sr, Fulbright and Wallace…all stalwarts of the democratic party and their progressive agenda. For what it’s worth, first time around I voted for Carter.

To imply the republican party is racist based upon your set of anecdotal facts is about as silly as accepting the democrats were against the civil rights act of 1964 and if not for the votes and support of the republican party it would not have passed.

This thread is to put forth one’s political ideas and debate and discuss those ideas. I can certainly appreciate your passion but your use of invective, vitriol and ad hominum attack seems unnecessary and over the top and in my opinion distracts from your message and argument.

I don't know if that makes you a racist. It does make you a heartless extremist.

This is 2012. This republican party paints itself that way. You defending the undefendable is proof enough that you are a conservative. Your posts show it. Your avatar is the New Yorker for christ's sake. Oh and you also told me you were on the right in that PM. I haven't even mentioned the John Sununu flub about Colin Powell giving his endorsement to Obama because "they look alike". You can argue the republican party isn't racist in its platform. I disagree with that but you can at least try to make that argument. One thing you can't argue is that all the racists are republicans. I'll let retired Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson and former Powell aide AND lifelong republican tell you much better than I the truth of the republican party today.

Lawrence Wilkerson: 'My Party Is Full Of R...

Colin Powell's former chief of staff condemned the Republican Party on Friday night, telling MSNBC's Ed Schultz, "My party is full of racists." Retired Army Col. Lawrence Wilkerson made the comment in response to Mitt Romney campaign surrogate John Sununu's suggestion on Thursday that Powell's endorsement of President Barack Obama's re-election was motivated by race. Wilkerson, who served as Powell's chief of staff when the general was secretary of state during the first George W. Bush term, told Schultz that he respected Sununu "as a Republican, as a member of my party," but did not "have any respect for the integrity of the position that [Sununu] seemed to codify." When asked by Schultz what, if anything, the remark said about the attitudes of the Republican Party, Wilkerson said: My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people -- not all of them, but most of them -- who are still basing their positions on race. Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander-in-chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin, and that's despicable. The retired colonel also said that "to say that Colin Powell would endorse President Obama because of his skin color is like saying Mother Theresa worked for profit." Powell, a Republican, endorsed Obama for the second time on Thursday morning -- he also backed the president in 2008 -- saying on CBS' "This Morning" that he was "more comfortable with President Obama and his administration" than with Romney on a host of issues. Sununu, no stranger to incendiary rhetoric this election cycle, reacted to the endorsement on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight," saying that "when you take a look at Colin Powell, you have to wonder whether that's an endorsement based on issues or whether he's got a slightly different reason for preferring President Obama."

  • Seems like the New Republican Party is it again. In fact, this has been their modus operandi from Day one of the Obama administration.
Block, then complain, then lay the blame on the president for ever short fall, every mistake...While never admitting to their own collusion in sabotaging the man (and by proxy, the entire country) from day 1.

IMO, The real blame for this entire mess lays at the feet of the REP party. And not just for cutting the budget to our embassies...but for what they did before & since Obama won the 2008 elections.

The REP's ran the country in the ground during Bush's 8yrs...Then set the place ablaze on the way out the door (leaving the worst economic climate since the great depression)...And have spent the last 3+yrs blaming the President for not cleaning up their mess fast enough, while placing road blocks in front every idea he's placed forward.

  • Interesting ... Thanks for posting ... I've listened to that clip several times ... I challenge you to quote specifically any comment from that clip which is fact based and not driven by anecdotal opinion. I've provided for your review a transcript of the Colonel's response to Shultz' comment and questions.

In the comment John Sununu made, he said, "When you look at Colin Powell there may be some other reasons why he would support President Obama." What does this say if anything about the Republican Party? Isn't this getting to be somewhat of a brand of the Republican Party?"

"on Gov Sununu's part I think it was an unfortunate slip of words but you're insinuating something and you're insinuating something that is absolutely accurate. My party unfortunately is the bastion of those people, not all of them but most of them, who are still basing their decisions on race. Let me just be candid, my party is full of racists and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander in chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin. And that's despicable."

On a side note - Shultz quotes Sununu a little differently than did you - do you have a clip or copy of the quote you cited in your last comment?
