Michelle Bachmann Now A Swiss Citizen

  • The irony here is deafening.

  • Another 4 years of Obama... and MOST of us will wish we had the means to become a citizen of another country.

Good for Michele... here's to her cheers

  • The ignorance of the left as to the reason for this is deafening...

She was born American and has always been an American. She never had her US citizenship renounced by either her parents when she was a child nor herself...

    Michelle Bachmann
I automatically became a dual citizen of the United States and Switzerland in 1978 when I married my husband, Marcus. Marcus is a dual American and Swiss citizen because he is the son of Swiss immigrants. As a family, we just recently updated our documents.

I am proud of my husband, Marcus, the love of my life, and his Swiss heritage. Even though I have been a dual citizen since I was married in 1978, I have never exercised any rights of that citizenship. Rather, I have always pledged allegiance to our one nation under God, the United States of America. We live in the greatest nation humankind has ever known and I am proud to be an American.

  • Thanks Cobby... for bringing that to light.

Too bad some on the left will NEVER see the light.

  • Really a non-story. Now for some real deafening irony, how about the current president using his Christian faith as a reason he is now for gay marriage. He might want to read the Bible and see what it says about homosexuality. Or perhaps his Bible has that little part left out.

  • Government shouldn't have anything to do with marriage. The government should classify people in long term committed relationships as civil union contracts(CUC) only and that's for people of the same sex or oppossite sex either way. And if you are stupid enough and want to be in a CUC with a couple people at the same time that's your business too.

Funny, rumor perculating out there is that Obama is going to use this as a way of dumping Biden and going after Hillary as his VP instead. I personally can't imagine her taking that position as it would not be good for her potential run in 2016.

I laugh at people talking about the sanctity of Marriage and whatnot blah blah blah. Is that really a serious issue that people spend time thinking about in this country? Really, with all the things that are going on in this country and the rest of the world, REALLY?

That's what she said (literally, you're quoting her).

This was before she took the step to officially renounce her dual citizenship, which was after some of her family took steps to confirm their dual citizenship. I don't know why, but my guess is that citizenship may help avoid some of the new cooperative agreements regarding bank secrecy between Switzerland and the US. It's no longer as easy to hide funds and avoid taxes over there. If the next story is that she really has dual citizenship between the US and the Caymen Islands, then that would probably confirm her purpose.

  • If it was Obama that had a duel citizenship anywhere can you imagine the complete meltdown of the right? Switzerland is a beacon of socialized medicine and was the first country in the world to legalize marriage rights for same sex couples. That's the irony.

In switzerland they virtually no unemployment. Their social security system is invested in private accounts. Socialized medicine works when everybody pays taxes as they do in Switzerland. They also "means test" their social programs in switzerland.

Switzerland is what we should strive for in many ways. Unfortunately for our country we have a party on the left who desires to keep people reliant on government so they can remain in power and a party on the right that has an extreme element that wants to "cut everybody off"

Neither seems to recognize that the goal should be to get people as productive as possible as they are in Switzerland so people don't need food stamps or welfare. Imagine if we spent 90% less on welfare, food stamps, disability etc and likewise those same people relied on the government were productive. We could have free healthcare for everybody! The reason why socialized medicine has failed in the rest of europe is because they are in the financial state that our country is headed. huge social programs with no taxpayers!

So you expected a serious response to saying the US should be like Switzerland?

The Swiss pay more in taxes, as a percent of GDP than we do. They probably do have more and better social programs because they don't spend much of anything on their own protection. They are a free rider when it comes to national security--and have been so for over a hundred years. So if we wanted to disband our military, I expect we could have some nice social programs, too, and even cut back on our taxes. Of course we wouldn't last long, because there's not another benevolent superpower who would protect our sovereignty.

And I think my Harry Lime post was on point. Switzerland is orderly and prosperous, but they've done hardly anything to benefit the world.

Awful post. They do not pay more as a % of GDP. They are in line historically with the us. The reason they have a health care system as strong as they do is because they have a population that works and doesn't rely on the government for everything. Their system is not "free" either. Citizens pay for a significant portion of their care. It is not a true socialist single payer system. In this "awful" economic time their highest unemployment rate was around 5%. That's why. Not because they don't have much of a military but because they have a higher % of their population that is productive.

As usual you offer no specifics. Name one thing in my post that is not accurate? Virtually same tax ratio to GDP. Unemployment #'s accurate. You just hate facts. That's the conclusion I've come to.

  • To me Obama IS a US citizen because his mother was an American. I'm bringing this up merely as a topic of discussion and because it shows how he is a liar because he either faked a Hawaiian birth certificate, lied about where he was born in his bios, and/or lied to get financial aid for college as a non-citizen...

I'm going to also link WND here who I acknowledge is a controversial site, but I do so simply because of Sheriff Joe's response who the Obama administration has gone after.

This clearly begs the question: How did the MSM miss this? I've long said that they were complicit in being agents for the left and that they failed to vet Obama. Even the London Telegraph has caught on and sees this.
