Mitt Romney Wins Debate

  • Romney whooped Obama like a rented mule. Obama was flat. Obama didn't answer. Obama didn't pounce on Romney. Obama didn't call Romney out for flat out LYING. Obama didn't mention 47% even once. NOT ONCE!!! Obama didn't mention Romney saying putting people in emergency rooms was a good plan for health care. It was like Obama was asleep. Not even close. Jim Lehrer was horrible too. He lost complete control. He let Romney go on and on and on, and kept cutting Obama off. That was Obama's fault. Obama didn't fight for that time. Romney did. Did Obama even prepare? Remember me saying this election was far from over? This is proof. Those polls are going to shore up at light speed after that debate. An absolute debacle for the President. One more debate like that and it's game over, Romney will be the next President of the United States. God help us all.

Didn't catch all of it because of work. What I saw I thought Romney won, but I didn't think it was that bad.

It wasn't in the middle and end. The first 30 minutes or so was an absolute beatdown. It's just unthinkable to me how Obama let him get away with lie after lie and didn't mention 47% even once.

    Shocking.

  • There's no excuse for that performance but I just thought of a reason that might explain it. Romney has had several recent debates under his belt with the primaries while Obama hasn't had a debate in 4 years. Let's not forget that the first Kerry-Bush debate that Kerry by all accounts absolutely slammed Bush and we all know how that came out. Another debate anything like this one and Obama will lose.

It was pretty decisive. Romney was sharp and Obama inexplicably showed up totally unprepared.

  • Obama has no answers. His record, his ideology and his experience - suck.

Romney came off ready in what I saw. I didn't think Obama was terrible, but I did think his responses were articulated poorly.

That's such a crock of crap. There were plenty of answers and SO many ways to nail Romney. The problem was that Obama just didn't show up. The empty chair that debated Clint Eastwood did a better job than Obama did tonight.

  • And let's be clear. Romney didn't win on substance. All Romney offered was lies, flip flops, and bullying of the moderator. That's it. But at least that was something. The problem and the reason Romney won is that Obama didn't call him on his lies or fight back at all. 47% should have been mentioned every other sentence. Bain and Romney outsourcing jobs should have been mentioned at least 10 times. Putting sick people in the emergency room as a viable health care plan should have been mentioned every other sentence. Saving the auto industry didn't come up once. Obama should have mentioned it every other sentence.

Romney won entirely on substance. What we saw last night is a "cool demeanor" with no facts or plan doesn't stand up to a person that knows what he is talking about, can articulate the idea and has facts and statistics to back it up. Carl, your hero knew his record was a pure failure and if he had brought up the 47%, Bain, etc, Romney had so much more to respond with, he would have looked even worse. He was unprepared and, even worse, knew he had nothing to stand on.

  • Romney's biggest problem is that he can't relate to poor people.

Obama's biggest problem is that he can't relate to stupid people. He has a hard time coming up with anything to say when someone says incredulous things, like how Mitt's health care plan was good for a state and not a country, or that Mitt would take credit for Mass. having the best schools in the country, or how he's going to pay for a magical tax cut that is definitely not $5 trillion.

I hope he reads Jerry Seinfeld's letter to the New York Times defending the use of "Really?". All he's gotta do is say that every time Mitt makes one of his unsubstantiated statements.

  • He didn't have any trouble relating to stupid people the first go round.

This board is not a good place to test that assertion.

And that everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie. Obama's problem is he's too nice.

  • Carl, bottom line here, your guy got smoked, and bad. He was in no way prepared, and even if he'd had been he still would've gotten smoked because he had no answers. Besides, any time you let John Kerry prep you for a debate of this magnitude you're in trouble!

Loser + Loser does not equal Winner!

I agree with all that other than he had no answers. Towards the end he started coming on a bit but it wasn't near enough. There were answers. Many of them. I screamed some of them at the TV myself so I know the answers exist lol For whatever reason Obama just wouldn't pounce. Obama did nothing to take Romney off his game. Kerry whooped Dubya like a red headed stepchild in the debates. He's not a bad debater at all. He better call Bubba and let Bubba school him in how it's done.

  • he had no answers.......how are you supposed to answer a guy who is lying out his ass at a fast and furious pace.

i guess Obama could have stood up there and said, 'that's a lie, that's a lie, that's a lie', problem is he would have looked like ish doing it and he would have had to say that at least 20-25 times.

pretty impressive by Mitt considering he talked for about 35 minutes.

the key metric will not be the debate it will be did Mitt improve his favorables at all. if not he has no shot.

Mitt was given a lot of rope last night, took it, and provided Obama with tons of new material for the next round of campaign adds.

those adds will be exactly the same kind that have been killing Romney so far this campaign. self inflicted wounds through contradiction. footage of Mitt saying one thing to one crowd and than saying the opposite to another crowd. plays right into the 47% debacle.

Mitts strategy last night will provide i imagine some short term gain but will ultimately fail long term.

this campaign will be decided on one question: do you or do you not trust Mitt Romney?

LOL! Just me saying this right here, but as gaffe prone as Biden is, and as intense and logical as Ryan is, I think the VP debate may turn out to be very entertaining.
Now, I realize(and not every conservative will admit this)that Biden is not dumb. I mean, he is but he isn't, but when it comes to politics he's been around a long, long time, so you know he knows how to play the game.
I believe the VP debate will be much better than anyone thinks.
I don't like Biden, never have, but a guy like him doesn't get to spend all that time in that chair in D.C. by being overly dumb. He says lots of stupid stuff, yeah, but in the end you have to view him as the political veteran he is and plan accordingly in how you'd attack his stance.
But don't underestimate Ryan either. That guy is very smart, and he's a political veteran too.
As I stated previously, I believe the VP debate will not only be worth watching, it will be a good debate as well.
