I'm watching only in America with Larry the Cable Guy. He is at Camp Pendleton going through an O course and some training when a female Cpt. Starts teaching him hand to hand. The best part is she has a dip in. Freakin nasty WM's. God do I not miss them.

I just started get'in into that show myself. I have not watched that one yet, but it's recorded so I will here shortly. WM's I must say, are the ONE THING I will NEVER miss about the Corps. They may be better now than they were 25 years ago, but I doubt it.

I was never in the military but I'll be damned if I don't love and appreciate each and everyone who served. I will say however that I have a 6 foot safe with a very respectable arsenal that any vet would be proud of. Btw, I have been trying to find an M4 for a while now...I'm not sayin...I'm just sayin. Lol. Thank you guys for your service. GOD bless you guys.

    **Football**

Thanks tommy... I appreciate the kind words. God bless you as well

BTW... Good luck with the M4 thumbsup

  • Tommy check out gunbroker.com I guarantee you will find one on there and at a pretty decent price as well. You could probably go to Rock River arms(Ibelieve thats the name) website or even Colts as well. Both are makers of the civilian M4. Also for all your other high speed needs check out atlantictactical.com BTW I like the sig.

Prepare yourself. Its a ten part series and its gut wrenching to say the least. IMO Snafu most accurately portrays the Marines I served with. GySgt. Basilone was played pretty good as well.

Welcome to the site 101. As a Marine picking up Sgt. in less than three does not happen. John Basilone, Dan Daly and Chesty Puller's DNA could be combined and that Marine wouldnt pick up Sgt. in less than 3. Just curious, did you use the M24 or the .50 cal? (unsure of us army nomenclature for .50) Either way thanks for everything bro.

Army .50 cal is the M2.

I spend half my time at Ft Hood and the other 1/2 at Benning. I did deploy to SWA twice during that time.

  • God Bless those who serve. I wanted to join but I was too big of a sissy, plus I didn't feel right with all the benefits I would have gotten.

But I do think all of those who served in the military should at least get everything 15-20% off, no doubt.

  • cobbycobb, can't comppete with a 6-year-old who shoots a Baretta, but did "qualify" my teenage daughters on my AR 15 back in the '80s. Even I wasn't allowed to shoot (unsupervised) until I was 10. But that was back when a country kid could go ride a horse all over creation all day without supervision.

My Military Career (1963-1966) was as follows: (Has SNAFU/FUBAR aspects to it)
    Basic at Fort Knox
Advanced Infantry at Ft. Gordon, GA (First Sergeant was ex-Merril's Marauders field-commissioned Captain)
Jump School at Ft. Benning, GA (5 weeks in August, survived on ice water and salt pills- First Sergeant was ex-Darby's Rangers)
Thoughts of volunteering for Special Forces forgotten when word was that E-5s were pulling KP waiting for next cycle to start - Had already had a week of nothing but "details" at Benning.
Got my wish and got assigned to 101st Airborne (when itt was a paratrooper unit)
    , A Company, 1/327 Infantry
Sent to the Mojave for field exercise as the 327 was the desert fighting brigade
Came back, Division re-organized, I was sent to the 101st MP Company (Why I don't know?)
Sent back to Ft. Gordon for MP School
Sent to Iran with 327 for show of force as Russians were pressuring Shah
Back in States, back to Mojave for a month-long field exercise with 327
Went directly from Mojave to Indiian Town Gap PA where 1st Brigade was training ROTC
December of 1964, made Soldier Of Month at MP Company, Reward was 4 months in Nashville as MP working out of Nashville PD (lived in civiilian house in suburbs)
In 1965, with 6 months left, volunteered to go to Vietnam with 1st Brigade (which once again included my old 1/327 Infantry, which once agaiin were the DESERT speciialists.
Get this, a Paratrooper outfit was sent to Vietnam on a moth-balled WWII Troop Ship, the General Leroy El Tinge, which broke down twice before leaving SF Bay. A Slow Boat To Indochiina.
After stopping at Subic Bay in the Philippines for a beer, landed at Cam Rahn when it was just a fishing village
Became the second Army Combat Unit there, as the 187th Airborne out of Okinowa got there first. Special Forces, A Marine Brigade and Air Force types at bases already there.
Became military gypsies, From Cam Rahn to Nha Trang to Quinhon (first jungle boots) to Ahn Khe to secure area for 1st Cav Air Assault's first deployment, (bombed out bridges during day, perimeter foxholes at night, then home base at Phan Rang (first squad tents) to Ben Cat in Delta (Miichelin Plantation), then back to Phang Rang. Flew back to Oakland to be discharged.
    Back in UK that Fall.
Aside: While in Vietnam, heard no one question our involvement there - everyone (foolishly) thought we were there to win it. Johnson & McNamara (Defense Secretary/Idiot who came up with the Edsel and the 4-door Thunderbird while at Ford) Saw only 2 soldiers smoking Pot.

The Army was good for me, helped me grow up. Think we should still have the Draft as too few of our men have any idea what the military or patriotism is all about, especially our politicians.

Touching video, Warmother. I'm not familiar with the 3/5. Were they in a particularly hot zone for combat or did they just have a really bad string of luck with losing guys?

People usually just see the formal pictures of the guys in their dress uniforms in front of the flags, but its the real life photos of them back home or with their buddies in service that really bring out the human side in the lives lost. Truly sad stuff for all of them, but especially for the ones where you see pictures of them with their wives and kids.

    mjdotson

  • Check out their page on my facebook profile. Its called "the boys of 3/5. They are out of Camp Pendleton and are from right down the street from where I was stationed back in the day.
