President Obama Wins

  • Romney wasn't my choice as candidate. I've been clear about that. I didn't think he was the answer. But I see Obama as a real problem. By his own words, he wants to transform America. Having heard some things he's said, it's not the transformation I think it should be. I think he has plans that a vast majority of Americans would oppose if they knew about them. However that stuff is out there and for whatever reason, people chose to ignore it. God is still in control. The United States is not mentioned in the book Revelations. Some Christians think that is because there is no longer a U.S. during the end times. I don't know what to think about that, but it seems plausible. With both of these parties, we are hurtling toward that anyway. I'm going to appeal to God like Abraham did when God set out to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. "If You can find just 10 righteous people, will u spare us?"

Carl, Obama barely won the popular vote - thereby there is little room to eschew your attitude of annihilation. There is no mandate.

Expect more of the same and another 4 years of horrible agenda set by Obama.

Congrats on win, but I think the Republican Party is poised for 12 years of growth from talented youngsters...couple that with a busted ass economical disaster looming and you can bet Pelosi's tits that the Dems will be back to the levels of Mondale/Dukakis in terms of electability.

I'm glad you feel that way. I really am. I hope all the conservatives feel that way. Barely? 2.6 million as it stands now. The electoral was a landslide. The Senate shocked everyone with the dems picking up so many seats. In your opinion it's a horrible agenda. In mine and many others it isn't. It's the right track. And all economic indicators bare out the fact that we are going in the right direction. If the economy crashes it'll be because the republicans in the house are continuing to obstruct. With Obama in the white house and the senate and the repugs having to make some sort of deal and compromise to hold their own seats in a couple years things are only going to improve. If you, meaning republicans, continue to put lunatics up against normal dems you're going to continue to lose. Talented youngsters? The Castros? Cuomo? Hillary? Biden? Rubio will never win the big chair. Jeb? People are Bush'd out. Boss Hogg Christie? Not a chance. He's Ron Paul of the new generation. People will claim they love him. When it comes time to vote no way someone with his girth, lack of discipline, and temperment wins the big one. Jindal? That's just funny. Ryan? Romney all but buried him the last couple of weeks because of his extreme budget that is immoral at best. Downright evil in reality. Good luck if that's who you're going to run. Bring on 2016. Bring on 2014 and I hope the repugs take your advice and don't change a thing.

  • We were founded as a Christian nation. We were a Christian nation for a long time. We are pretty far removed from that at this point. Civilizations rise and fall. It won't be a shock to me when we fall soon. It was a good run.

    stillDA23

  • We were founded as a nation free from religous persecution from those that wanted to tell people what they believed.

I'm a christian but I don't think that this country is going to hell in a hand basket for anything related to religion.

Heck, the US has been having a increasing amount of people label themselves as atheists, many christian cry that we're becoming morally corrupt. Yet violent crime has been decreasing in the US the last ten years.

A lot of what has been taught in the school books re: how and/or why our nation was founded is not true. Most of what is in textbooks amounts to glorified stories. You are right that the PIlgrims were separatists and wanted to be able to create churches separate and apart from the Church of England, which was in and of itself the de facto government at the time; however, I hope you aren't using that to suggest that they (the Pilgrims who established the first colony here) or the founders after them didn't found this country on Christian beliefs and principles. If that is what you or anyone else is suggesting, that is not true. Take a look at the Mayflower Compact, the Charter of the Virginia Colony, the Charter of Massachusetts and countless other documents from the time. Make no mistake about it....while they initially came here to get away from the Church of England's ruling with an iron fist, they did not come here as atheists or non-Christians, and the documents make it pretty darn clear what their intentions and beliefs were.

As for violent crime going down over the last decade, that has nothing to do with the fact that we have more people labeling themselves as atheists or because we have become more accepting to things like same-sex relationships, drugs, etc. You can primarily thank the decline in gang violence that was so rampid in the 1990's. That has created a HUGE decline in the violent crimes statistics.

    mjdotson

  • The Virginia charter was basically a commercial document, the Virginia colony being strictly a for-profit enterprise

But beyond that, I'm still having the hardest time figuring out how Romney gets such a pass from being the first major party candidate who was not a Christian. Mormons are very nice people and they conform to the strictest Christian definitions of sin, yet they don't believe in salvation thru Jesus Christ as Christians understand it. They think all us Gentiles are going to hell unless they get a chance to baptize us after we're dead --- which would then allow us to go live on the planet Kolub with God.

I get people who say all the cataclysmic things about Obama. It's consistent with evangelical thought going back to the Great Awakening. But I don't get how easy it is to rationalize how our great Christian nation could elect a non-Christian and not expect apocalyptic consequences

No. Not this one. After listening to your sides lunacy for a year. After having to listen to cobby, jj, twit, DA, you, and others spew lie after lie about Obama and bash anything he says and does I'm spiking the ball. I haven't used any hyperbole in this thread. You and anyone on your side talking about class and being uneducated is pretty funny.

That shows right there you don't know what you're talking about. Thomas Jefferson was a borderline atheist. He rewrote the bible. If you're basing everything on Christianity you should have voted for Obama. He's a christian. Romney is not.

Carl, I disagree on Jefferson. He was a very spiritual man and nothing like an atheist. He didn't really rewrite the Bible--he just went through the gospels and cut out all the supernatural stuff to where all that was left were the teachings of Jesus. That's in line with contemporary, and current, religious thought to the extent that we don't believe in current day miracles. Some of us believe they occurred in Jesus's day, other's don't. Jefferson was just saying it was a crutch and that there's plenty of reason to be a Christian without the miraculous stuff.

But I agree on your other point--I suspect you and me and a couple others are the only ones on this board to say they've voted for a Christian in every presidential election (although I did vote for a Jew on the undercard back in 2000)

I can't speak for everyone on this board, but as for me personally....I have pled with you for MONTHS now to please stop with the hyperbole and try, just for once, to engage in discussion/debate without going off on some tangent full of vitriol. You ignore those requests and repeatedly go off about how everything and everyone related to the Republican (or "repugs" as you childishly call it) is evil, immoral, etc. I disagree with most everything the Democrat (or if we are going to stoop to your level, the "libtards") stand for, but I am not going to be childish and say I truly believe that people who align themselves with your party are evil, immoral, stupid or whatever else you choose to throw around in an effort to get a rise out of a few posters. It just gets old for a LOT of us who actually enjoy discussing and debating politics like adults when we click in the threads and see post after post from you (and others on "my side" as well....this isn't just aimed at you alone) that are full of nothing but hyperbole and vitriol. ENOUGH, damnit!

I have debated several times without the vitriol. I remember one time in particular you asked me to stop and I did and continued debating without the name throwing. You basically bailed on the discussion. As for this thread it isn't a debate. It's meant to spike the ball. It's pretty odd you calling me out on this when someone on your side a few posts back is talking about signs of the end of the world because of Obama!!! The people I call evil are evil. Not all republicans are. Some are ignorant victims. Some were indoctrinated very young and just don't know better. Many and more know exactly what's going on and approve. They are bad people. Evil as a serial killing child molester? Most likely not. But terrible people with no compassion or heart? Most definitely.

Oh and stop pretending like it's one sided. I'm one. There are several on your side that are even worse than me and that doesn't seem to bother you any. And like I said before this thread is more than usual because I am admittedly spiking the ball in response to all the BULLSHIT I've endured here this past year by the mental midgets on your side here. You aren't to blame. You rarely talk the complete horse crap others on your side do. So on behalf of those responsible I apologize for them. Without their complete crap this past year this thread would be very different.

  • Here's the issue that most are overlooking. Obama won re-election by a lesser percentage and millions less in the total vote count. That's the first time this has happened in a LONG, LONG time. His campaign strategy was, as has been well documented, to destroy his opponent and make him an unviable alternative because Obama's record was PATHETIC. Mission accomplished! But was the country well served by this cynical and divisive strategy?? Are we more united as we should be after a Presidential election?? Do people feel better about the future of our country?? Winning by subtraction is a good plan in the short run but from a longer view, it is toxic (like we needed more of that) and makes it harder to get things done that need to be accomplished.

As for whacko's and hack's, they don't get any worse than Gibbs, Cunter, Plouffe and Axlerod. My beef w/the Romney campaign is he sent out leaf eaters who, instead of fighting back to overcome the sewage being spewed by the Obama campaign team, allowed the narrative to be shaped by these asswipes. The only spokesman who actually showed some life and would punch back was Sununu and he sometimes came off as a dowdling old man. Obama won because his campaign team basically knee capped the Romney team early on and they never let them off the mat! Bottom line is this election turned more people off and made EVERYBODY more cynical about the political process. Yep, something we can be proud of and change we can believe in!

    ukaveman

  • Carl you're not alone, if I had a vote it would have been for Barack. I just hate debating politics, living in Europe you realise you're making a choice for the lesser asshat in any election! We've just been around longer and had more time to grow apathetic ;)

    QueenLizzysWildcat

  • In all seriousness, I don't really care what anyone thinks of my political opinions. I have my beliefs, based on my worldview. Have I been indoctrinated? By my parents?! Are you kidding me?! What kind of stupid ass question is that? Um, I'm pretty sure that's a parent's job. Doesn't mean I've never gone back and revisited my beliefs to see if I truly believe it.

I may be wrong about thinking this is the beginning of the end. People thought Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany was the beginning of the end. We'll see. You better hope and pray I'm wrong. If I'm not, and you need some food, come look me up. I'll help you out.

You are the exact problem with your party. I want you believing what you believe and I want you screaming over any and all calls of compromise and common sense. Your first statement isn't true at all. He won by 3 million votes and counting. He didn;t destroy Romney. He told the truth about Romney. Obama's record was a good one. Hence the lopsided victory. You and your ilk crying and whining about mean old Obama destroying mitt's reputation make me laugh. Coming from the people of the birthers, the welfare to work lie that was blasted out of the water, the chrysler moving to china lie etc. The billions spent by rove, the cock brothers, and other superpacs doing nothing but tearing down their democratic opponents, including Obama, and you have the balls to cry about Obama beating up poor lil willard? Dude just stfu with that horse crap.

You keep on believing the left are as bad as the right. Please do. I hope the people in your party that make the decisions have the same thoughts. I hope they ignore their own shortcomings and instead point and cry about the other side doing the same thing they are doing. It's not true but maybe someone will believe them if they do. "Cunter"? Really? Are you 12? Sexist idiot. Sununu!!!???? Are you serious? The old racist that said Powell gave his endorsement to Obama because he was black!!? rotfl Man you are exactly why the repugs tanked and will continue to tank. I hope the guys like you keep swinging. Sununu hahaha Pop the bubble. Get some air. Come back to reality. You are welcome.

My 1st statement is absolutely true. Voter turnout was MILLIONS lower than it was in 2008. The Obama campaign masterfully made Romney toxic to lower income voters and they just stayed home. Secondly, you obviously have a reading comprehension problem because what part of Sununu being a dowdling old man do you not get?? You won and my country lost. As a person who pays his taxes and is sickened by government largesse and waste, then this year was a clear and easy choice. For those who are content with sticking out their grubby little paw and living off the backs of others who go out on a daily basis, bust their ass and try and make a living, then I sincerely hope you eventually wake up and decide to be a giver -v- taker.

As for the Cunter comment, I'm sorry your delicate sensibilities are offended (not really). Conservative women and minorities have been called that and more by the left for years (uncle tom, Aunt Jemima etc) but I bet you think it's funny and right. I call them the way I see them and if you don't like it to friggin bad. I'm tired of conservatives allowing themselves to be bullied and tarnished by the freakshow left and we need to get some stones and punch back. Carville, Begala, Axlerod, Cunter etc play hardball while the Republicans are leaf eaters who have no idea how to fight back.

They didn;t masterfully make Romney toxic to lower and middle income voters. He IS toxic to them. You dumb bastard. You act like democrats don't work. We're all just living in poverty off the government. You have no sense of reality or decency. You're entire worldview is why you lost and you're just too stupid and filled with hate to see it. You're still crying about 47% being moochers and don't even realize that that kind of thinking is why you lost and will continue to lose.

That second paragraph is just ass backwards. The conservatives are the ones constantly doing the bullying. Even when they are in the minority they bully. Carville, Begala, and Axelrod bullies? You can't be serious. Are you seriously that far from reality and how things really are?

After getting your asses handed to you you still don't get it. Some in your party get it. You and your ilk don't. The extreme right Limbaugh wing. I hope you guys continue running the show. Here is some reality. Your America is over. You lost. Not just this one election. I'm talking bigger than just an election. You have lost what you want America to be. America has grown up and went past you. You lost as the bad guys always lose in these things. Like the slaveholders lost. Like the jim crow south lost. Like the opposition of women voting lost. This is no longer an America run by and for old white guys. This is an America that is inclusive of people of all colors, religion, and sexuality. An America that cares about the poor and the sick and the old. We are finally starting to live up to the standards we've preached and never practiced as a country. It is never going back to how you want it to be. It's just not. It's that simple. So either get on board or gtfo of the way. It's a great time to be an American.

Not just you. Everyone like you. You aren't irrelevant. But close to it. You aren't the only person in America that has served in the military. Republicans aren't the only ones that have fought for America. Conservatives aren't the only ones that have fought for their country. It's funny you're pulling the military card when Dubya dodged, Cheney dodged, Romney never served, and so on. It's also funny you pull it when your side is responsible thousands of our troops needlessly dying. Obama has done more for the military in 4 years than Dubya came close to in 8. You have no decency. You're a bigot idealogue that bases your entire worldview on what Limbaugh tells you. You haven't provided me with anything but a lot of extreme right wing propaganda for me to smack around and make fun of. For that I thank you. If you only looked at ability and content of character you wouldn't have voted for Dubya over a war hero or Romney over Obama. I'm not living in a liberal fantasy land. Did you not witness the election? Again, you don't understand reality. I'm not insinuating you don't get it. I am flat out stating you don't get it. If it was feasible I'd rent a plane and have it fly over the state with huge letters "UKAVEMAN DOESN'T GET IT" flowing behind it.

Not just you. Everyone like you. You aren't irrelevant. But close to it. You aren't the only person in America that has served in the military. Republicans aren't the only ones that have fought for America. Conservatives aren't the only ones that have fought for their country. Here's what I DO GET, YOU ARE A 1st RATE ASS CLOWN. Put that on a banner and fly it over your home and then shove it up your own arse! You accuse me, and others who don't agree with you, with taking our cue from Rush Limbaugh or whoever as if we can't/ don't think for ourselves. I actually have a day job (unlike you) so I can't/don't listen to Rush. You never answered the TRUTH in that vote totals are down SIGNIFICANTLY over 2008. Why is that??? Obama won with far fewer votes than he received in 08, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since a guy named Wilson. My point to start this, supported my a lot of analysists, is that the Obama campaign team did EXACTLY what they needed to do in order to overcome a weak economic record and still unpopular Obamacare legislation. The cynical campaign has done nothing to unite the country and the status quo continues which doesn't exactly point to an optimistic future. But again, you can't or won't acknowledge this so stay in your basement, eat your cheetos and stroke yourself while gazing lovingly at your Obama posters!!!
