Quick Political Question??

  • How can any Normal - Middle Class - American, support a man that has made is fortunes off "Vulture Capitalism"??? A man that hides his "hard earned" fortunes in the Cayman Islands, Swiss bank accounts & a shell corporation in Bermuda, so that he doesn't have to pay taxes to the country he's trying to become the president of??? It makes no sense to me...

IMO, a man known for "harvesting profits" from the companies he dismantles & destroys, is not the guy I want in the White House! This is a man that blasts Obama for not "creating" more jobs in his 3+yrs (on the stump & during last nights debate)...All the while knowing HIS baby - Bain Capital - is currently in the process of off-shoring good paying American jobs to China. And is known as one of the "off-shoring" pioneers.

It wasn't enough that the company in question was profitable...Nope...I guess for men like Mitt...Ones that ONLY care about $$$...It's easy to think; "why pay $17.50/hr to American workers that have spent up to 40yrs of their lives working for the company...When you can pay $0.99/hr in China & make more for the "shareholders"!!!"

Yeah, the same China he was blabbing about last night at the debate.

I truly fail to see how supporting him can be justified...I just do not see it...And I'm a REP. Well...I do not know anymore...I used to be.
The REP party I belonged to yrs ago has moved so far to the right (mostly over the last 10+yrs), that I'm now considered a quasi-LIBERAL & will likely vote DEM in 2wks!

I may not agree w/ everything Obama stands for...I may not agree w/ all his political views...But I do feel like he's trying to help ALL OF US...Not just the richest among us!

Most of us either think Mitt's one of us or that we're fixing to be one of him.

    Neither has roots in reality.

You may want to brush up on your facts.

Fact is, Romney did make his fortune from Vulture Capitalism.
Fact is, He does hide his $$$ overseas in the Cayman's, in Switzerland & in a shell company in Bermuda. (Sankaty High Yield Asset Investors)
Fact is, He did make most of his $$$ at Bain Capital, a company he founded, & their corporate model of "harvesting profits" via dismantling those companies, is well known.
Fact is, Bain Capital is also known as a Off-shoring pioneer, in the business world..
Fact is, Bain is in the process of off-shoring more of our jobs & is making those American workers train their Chinese counterparts.
Fact is, Mitt still owns 51%- a controlling interest - in Bain & he helped to select each board member before "leaving" in name only. (supposedly in 1999 - But the SEC has filings from 2003)
Fact is, Bain is shuttering a profitable (Senata Technologies) plant in Freeport, Illinois & moving it to China. Killing another 170 jobs, harming 170 families & those families communities!
Fact is, Senata has been turning a nice profit...returning nearly $2 / share in dividends... since recovering from the the lows of 2008/2009 (from economic downturn left by Bush/Cheney)

Please explain to me what FACTS I got wrong.

  • Could be that some people don't care that much about money. Maybe some of us vote Pro-life, Pro-gun and/or Pro-Israel. All issues that Romney trumps Obama on.

    Here is your answer Catcard.

  • PLEASE explain how Romney trumps Obama on those 3 subjects.

Q: How any of you have lost your guns because of Obama?? I surely haven't...And as far as I can see...No one I know has had the Obama Admin take theirs, either.

Q: How many of you have chosen to have an abortion due to Obama or any DEM for that matter??? That law hasn't made any woman I know have one. And it being on the books doesn't affect me in the least.

JFYI, Romney isn't going to get it off the books. just isn't going to happen...no matter how much the TeaParty wants to think he will. And I also have a hard time thinking that one must force a woman to have a child that she doesn't want.. *( I fully understand the moral implications of it being a SIN...But it is not my sin to judge - It's the lords! Each will be judged for their sins before entering the kingdom of heaven!)

Q: How is our relationship w/ Israel any different today, than it was in 2008? We still support them, as we have always done. An attack on Israel is still going to be considered an attack on us...Nothing has changed there.

So...Those 3 topics being as they are...And Romney being the flip-flopping guy he has shown himself to be...How can you trust that you know who he really is & what he really thinks & what he really stands for???

I'm not either. But even though I'm whiter than a nun's belly, I realize I have a lot more, personally, in common with Obama than I do with somebody like Mitt. Due to his wealth, he lives in a completely different world from me and from anybody I've ever known.

The stalking horse there is abortion. I don't believe that elected Republicans have any plan to reduce or prohibit abortions--abortion supporters are their cash cow. I think a constitutional amendment to prohibit abortion would probably pass, yet it's never even seriously discussed.

That's not to say that if Mitt wins, he'll probably get to replace Ginsburg and it will be with a pro-life judge, and it's possible that Roe vs. Wade would then be overturned which would then make abortion unavailable in some states. It's a convoluted way to get people like you to refuse to consider Democrats and keep Republicans in power.

As for guns and Israel, Romney does clearly trump Obama, but it's all theory. Gun rights are stronger than they've ever been. We have staked our entire foreign policy position on the preservation of Israel. In the debate the other night, compare how much time was spent on Israel, a country of 7 million, and the countries we only care about because of Israel (Iran and Syria) vs. time spent on China, India, and the EU combined.

Looks like you're the idiot to me. And to answer the op's original question of how can people vote against their own interest... I don't know. It's been happening for years. I'd say a lot of these people were indoctrinated by their parents and are now so brain washed they pay little mind to facts and reason. Instead of actually thinking about what you're saying/asking they automatically go into defense mode like hoptowns brilliant retort of "brush up on your facts". No need for you to brush up on your facts op. You seem to know some. Some like twit and jj have no clue about politics. They just hear fat drug addicted idiots like rush and the airheads on faux and friends tell them lies based on hate and they swallow it hook like and sinker.

DA23, That is correct...only God can truly judge you. But should you feel the need to TRY to follow through w/ those threats...I can promise you it would be a very very short wait.

As far as my family is concerned...My wife and my 3 boys are fully trained in how to take care of themselves...(I am a ex-military guy & have made that a priority in our house)...So, I have no fear for them or of loudmouth message-board tough guys...like yourself!

    catcard202

  • The point is, we legislate morality all the time. People who seem to think that butchering a pre-born baby is akin to telling a lie drive me crazy. I would never do harm to your family. I wouldn't even do harm to Carl. But protecting the lives of these babies is a real issue to me. Do not minimize that. I get people voting their wallet. Do not sit there and tell me my issues of choice don't matter.

I don't think he was actually saying he was going to do any of those things. He was using it as an example (albeit a really bad one). JMO.

  • Never said I supported the "butchering of babies". Never stated that I personally approved of abortion... Just stated that having that law on the books never affected me or forced anyone into going that route.

I agree that just because it's legal...Doesn't mean it's right or just.

Also, just because the REP party uses it as a political tool, doesn't mean that their candidate of choice will do anything to change the law! 5 REP presidents have held the office since 1973...And the REP party has done little to nothing to repeal the law!

IMO, If they REALLY wanted to overturn it...They would have found a way before now....But as has been stated, it's been a VERY GOOD fundraising tool for them & for the DEM's for that matter.

    catcard202

  • You could argue that. But I think the problem is that the Supreme Court strikes down everything that weakens R v W. We haven't been able to turn the court yet. They strike down every passed state law that comes up. Reagan is the one who put the issue in the platform. I don't think H.W. Bush cared too much. W. Bush was ardently pro-life. I have no clue what Romney is. He hasn't sold me yet that he is, but I know Obama is pro-abortion. The justices these Republicans appointed were conservative and pro-life (anti-abortion) with the exception of probably H.W. Bush, who appointed David Souter. He hit a homerun with Clarence Thomas, imo.

The other part of the equation is that most republicans lack personal integrity and care too much about their public opinion and people liking them to actually dig their heels in on the issue. So, we're at a stalemate until we can flip the court. Once we do, we'll see what happens.
