The Iowa Caucus...

I never thought so before, but I think Santorum will be getting many of Bachmanns votes... and Perry's too if and when he drops out. Santorum is for real all of a sudden... he's appealing to many Reagan supporters (conservative Democrats and Independents included). At this point... I have no idea who to vote for. I was committed to Cain, but since he's been out... shrug

There's no way any democrat would vote for Santorum. He's far right. Way far. I do like him because he doesn't flip flop. I don't agree with anything he's about but at least you know what you get with him. The other side of that spectrum is Huntsman. You may not like him but he sticks to his guns. They are the only 2 I give that respect to. Some would put Paul on that list but his newsletter fiasco showed him to be a liar that won't back up what he wrote and felt.

DA23Rox should like this news. . . (I believe it's DA that loves Santorum)

Yes, I am pleased. Rick Santorum is the most pro-life/ pro-family/pro-Israel candidate in the race. Those are the most important issues to me. I know most don't understand that, but that's who I am. Hope he can get some mileage out of this to be a player.

I understand it and I pretty much oppose everything Santorum is for. But that's you and you should vote for whoever you feel best represents your concerns. And I think he can, is, and will be a player. He'll punt New Hampshire like everyone else not named Romney and Huntsman should and we'll see how he does in South Carolina. If he could win or place a close 2nd in SC he'll really start getting a look. I think it's become obvious that Santorum has become the non-Romney candidate and he could very well get the nomination in my opinion. Santorum's only real threat for the non-Romney vote is Paul but he's too crazy and will soon settle back into 3rd or 4th. If Romney wins SC it's game over.

  • As an after thought I love how those on the far right are suddenly pro-israeli. Pro-Israel has become code for those on the far right for Anti-Muslim. They just don't have the guts to call it what it is.

When you speak of far right in that reference, I assume you mean the religious right? If that's that case... Christians have always supported Israel. I can see how one may see that as being anti-Muslim, but it's really more "Anti-ANY threats to Israel".

Serious question though... even as a non-Christian, non-Muslim, atheist or whatever... if it was a known fact that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (Iran), for example, was mere minutes away from carrying out his threat of wiping Israel off the map and had a nuclear missile locked and loaded... do you think we should help defend Israel or do nothing at all?

  • Of course we should defend Israel. They're our allies. That wouldn't be needed though because Israel will knock out any nuclear facilities remotely close to getting the bomb. And when they do we'll back them all the way to full scale nuke war. I didn't mean just the religious right. I mean far right, period. And this far right backing of Israel is new. Ask Pat Buchanon who was the far right poster child in the 80's.

I think all the candidates are pro israel. Left and right. If Israel is really that high on your priority list you should take Netanyahu's word for it. He said Obama is a great friend to Israel. So you might consider voting for Obama.

Thanks. Here's a funny thought. You know those courtroom dramas? The old ones. Before AC and they have the hand fans. Imagine a fat woman hearing a guilty verdict about her husband. Now picture it all just being too much and she faints while she fans herself and people have to keep her from falling to the floor. Ok now back to present day. I'm picturing a lot on this board having the same reaction if they were told that they cast their vote wrong and that you actually voted for Obama. That's not a knock on anyone. Just a funny thought. That's how I'd react if someone told me I just voted for Santorum.

  • Btw JJ do me a favor and start posting stuff like this in the politics thread. No need for this to have its own thread.

That's fine... I just remember JD saying that he wouldn't mind separate threads every now and then for something big making the news. The Iowa Caucus was the biggest thing in political news at the time, so I thought it would be okay. As much as I hate "Official Anything" threads... I've been very careful about keeping it as JD asked.

  • Yeah thats fine no problem there. Lets just make sure the majority goes in the "official" thread.

  • I'm not a fan of santorum, but to say no democrat would vote for him is silly. Democrats voted for Reagan, twice. Democrats voter for Bush, twice.

PA is an overwhelmingly democrat state and they elected him to the US senate.

This is all moot though. Santorum is not going to get the nomination. Romney will build more momentum tomorrow night and unless something crazy happens he'll likely sew up the nomination by becoming the first candidate in modern times to sweep Iowa, New hampshire and SC.

    No candidate is perfect.

had Santorum not made his "blah" comment last week he probably would have been an easy choice for romney as VP...

I disagree. The Iowa Caucuses just as any major election result deserves it's own thread...

  • Yeah maybe I should have been a little more clear. This is fine lets just make sure that we arent cluttering up the board again with politics.

  • He's just being proactive. Barney Fife would say he's nipping it in the bud. So would Fred Sanford. Not that it matters but I approve of bud nipping across the board.
