The weekly Tebow talk...

  • I love listening to the weekly explanations for why Tim Tebow keeps winning. One of the talking heads on "Around The Horn" just said he was impressed by Tebow hitting "wide open receivers," clearly a back-handed compliment. Funny that Rodgers or Brady throwing to wide-open receivers on a weekly basis doesn't seem to draw such sarcasm. I'm not knocking those guys, who have proven they are great, but you rarely see them hitting passes to guys who AREN'T open. What a dumb argument.

  • Funny tweet I saw: "Tebow is starting to make me question my atheism"

  • I've been surprised by Tebow. I don't know what he's doing, or how he's doing it, but he is most definitely doing it. He always annoyed the crap out of me, but props to him for finding a way to succeed in the NFL when most people (myself included) thought he couldn't.

  • I dont have both feet on the bandwagon just yet but that play to Thomas where we threw back across his body for a TD was AMAZING. I know DT was open but that was a hard throw and what awareness. Im just glad Wes Woodyard is having a winning season. He deserves it.

  • Tebow has beat, Kansas City, Oakland, Minnesota, San Diego, and NYJ. . . Not exactly powerhouses, and they've all been close games. . . And looking forward Denver has more weak ass games coming up. . . They have one of the softest schedules I think I've ever seen, lol, the only good team they have left is New England in 2 weeks. . . The guy finds a way to win, but he's not exactly beating good teams yet. . .

    I agree with all this^^^

Btw... One can do amazing things when they have God on their side. biggrin

It irks me to no end that people hate on Tebow because he's an outspoken Christian. No one hates on the Muslim players... who are just as open about their faith as Tebow is.

    Imagine that. SMDH

Really??? You think that the reason people don't like Tebow is because he is christian??? get a grip. . . Also, name me some muslim players in the NFL, and the link between their religious beliefs and how much people hate on them or not. . . .

Well, I read where you yourself, said that Tebow has brought this all on himself for being so open and outspoken about his Christianity... so YES, I think alot of the "hate" stems from that.

I never said that people hate on Muslim players... I stated the opposite. That is why I think it's total BS for people to berate Tebow for his religion.

Have you NOT seen or heard of NFL players practicing their Muslim faith? I have... but I sure as hell don't "hate" them for it or belittle them. I will see what I can find.

Btw, here's what you posted in the "who do you hate more" thread...

"If he was quiet and reserved and people were attacking him, I might have some empathy. He has chosen to put his personal life out in the public for what ever reason. . ."

That says to me that he brings the hate on himself for being so open about his faith.

  • Brad, I didn't dig this particular article up to stir any debate... it's just show a bit of proof that Muslim players exist in the NFL.

Some may not agree to any special treatment... but I never heard ANYONE 'hate" on them for being open about their faith. However, for Tebow... well shrug

Brad, I know how the topic of Christianity puts you on edge. I know from previous discussions, that you tend to have a problem with anyone who identifies as being Christian.

Tebow at Florida was as outspoken as any active athlete I can remember. You never hear a lot about most guys' faith at all. You hear stories about him trying to get the NFL combine class he was to pray with him before taking the Wonderlic and pissing everyone off. A lot of it is that he's just a mega high profile player. He was considered the best player in years by pretty much everyone he did, so everything he did or said got a lot more attention than similar statements by other players would. So even if he wasn't any more open about it, you still heard about it and had it shoved down your throat during halftime segments than you would with any other player recently, whether Christian, Muslim or Pastafarian (they worship the flying spaghetti monster). I don't remember anyone putting biblical (or other religious) quotes in their eye black. I think he would get much much much less flack if he seemed someone like you could have a beer with. Which he totally does not! He would lecture you on the virtues of not drinking or screwing.

I don't see any muslims putting koran passages on their eyeblack. I don't see muslims in super bowl ads professing their politics. I don't see any muslim players breaking out their rugs and bowing to mecca every time a player stubs his toe. I don't see any muslims also breaking out those rugs and bowing to mecca whenever their FG kicker is trying for a game winner. I'll be so glad when this sideshow gimmick offense comes back down to reality.

Yeah. Mendenhall's twitter didn't blow up when he defended his muslim terrorists.

That was more a crazy conspiracy thing than a religious thing. He implied that he thought the planes had some help (presumably from the government, like the other 9/11 conspiracy kooks think) bringing the WTC towers down.

    BigTyrone

  • Ok, I take that back. I had only seen the first quote listed below, not the second. What a buttwipe.

“We’ll never know what really happened,” Mendenhall said. “I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.”

Mendenhall also expresses sympathy for bin Laden. “What kind of person celebrates death?” Mendenhall says. “It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side.”

Several of you have pointed out to us some potentially controversial messages appearing today on the Twitter account of Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall. Though it's not a verified account, it's being followed by other Steelers, including safety Troy Polamalu, center Maurkice Pouncey.

That is the best explanation I've heard (read) concerning Tebow. I don't have a problem with Bible verse #'s being written under his eye, on his ass or wherever else he wants it. However, I
agree that he should NOT be trying to force his practice on anyone else... especially, during a damn game. That could make some teammates very uncomfortable.

Like you, Brad and others have said in the past... there's a time and place for everything. I agree with that statement. Also, like others... I agree that no one should EVER try to force their religion on others or try to manipulate others to share their faith. With that said, I only have a problem when I "suspect" someone is being attacked, berated, belittled, taunted, laughed at or HATED on, simply because of their faith... and being open about it. That's all.

I hope you guys understand where I'm coming from, cuz trying to further explain and defend my stance, can be nerve wrecking as hell... and when my nerves get wrecked, I NEED A DAMN DRINK!!! LOL

cheers pray cheers pray cheers pray

Yeah. Like you i just disregarded his first statement like I would any crazy WTC put up job theory. I didn't like it but who cares. The second one about Bin Laden straight up pissed me off. And he deserves the backlash he got. Same as Tebow does. If you throw your personal stuff out there for all to see don't cry and complain when people call you on your BS.

As for Tebow I don't think it's all about religion. The hate I mean. Sure it has some to do with it. It's one of my personal reasons for hating him. But I think for a lot of people it's just the goody goody thing. Nobody likes a goody 2 shoes. Remember in school? Nobody liked that kid. A lot of it has to do with that. I also think the reason he's so liked by people that aren't florida/denver fans is because of his religion so it works both ways. UK fans are not supposed to like Florida QB's. That's a fact Jack!!

I'm not being hateful. I hate Tebow but I'm not being hateful. We're giving our opinions on things so we're all being opinionated. I'm not being any more argumentative than you or anyone else. It's not even argumentative. It's just discussing. You are pointing fingers. But that's fine. I'm pointing a finger at you right now as well. One finger.
