Tiger Woods or Dale Jr.

  • Who will be the first to win another cup in their respective sport?

I think Tiger is finished... and I doubt Dale Jr wins another, but I think he's more likely to, before Tiger ever does again.

Both guys seem to be watching the up and comers pass them by... and it appears both are being left in the dust for good.

If one or the other could win another cup, who do you give the nod to?

What do you mean exactly by "cup?"

As in FedEx Cup or Sprint Cup Championship.

Thanks... I needed to clear that up.

BTW... not sure about Golf. There are many cups, but I thought their was one (FedEx) given to the top golfer at the end of every season.

Okay, I was more confused because you said "another" . . . Jr. has never won a championship. . .

Again... I stand corrected. I just worded that op piece all kinds of f'ed up huh? lol

To put it in other words...who is more likely to ever finish #1 in "point standings" (in the future)?

  • In golf its about major championships. Its not Tigers goal at the beginning of every season to win the Fed Ex cup. I'm not sure why Tiger and Dale Jr. keep getting compared to each other anyway. We're comparing a guy who dominated his sport in a way thats never been done before for a whole decade plus to a guy who's barely won anything. But if we're talking about which guys will win their respective "Cups" first I'll go with Tiger. He's done it multiple times before and still has a lot of golf left to be played this season and he could come on during the playoffs later in the year and win it. He's the #7th ranked player in the world right now. I'm not sure on this but I don't think Dale Jr. has ever won the Nascar Sprint Cup Series or whatever its called.

  • Like Twhit said, golf is about Major.

I would suggest Tiger also. He already has won one tourney this year. He hasn't played consistently enough to perform consistently, especially in difficult courses like Majors.

If he stays healthy, I can easily see him winning next year. Not sure about this year.

However, Tiger also doesn't play in as many tourney as most players, so i think that hurts him in the cup standing (Since, i believe it's based off points.)

  • Like I said, I doubt either of them do... but if I had to pick one to finish at the top of his game as points leader, I'm going with Dale Jr. Tiger lost his claws and Dale Jr is showing some drive... and like BG said, he's currently in 2nd. For that reason...if either one can finish on top, I give the nod to Dale Jr.

  • It doesn't really matter that Jr. is in 2nd place at the moment. What matters is what place he's in when the chase starts. Same for Tiger when the playoffs start. Like I said JR has never won a chase. Tiger won the Fed Ex cup in 2007 and 2009. I looked up the all time rankings for the Fex Ex cup and Tiger leads all time since the Fed Ex started in 2007. So the correct answer is Tiger Woods as long as he's healthy.

  • I think Jr will win another race before Tiger wins a major but I can't see him Jr ever winning a championship, don't think he has it in him!

    Correct.

The difficulty is predicting Tiger's health. To me, he is still one of the best. I would say he is top 3-5 player right now.

The problem is, he can't consistently play golf anymore. Too many injury after injury.

He's healthy right now. Just has to be more diligent when it comes to taking care of injuries. He can't try to play on one leg anymore and if the achilles is hurting he has to take care of it immediately. I think he'll be fine. He creates a lot of torque in his golf swing though so its easy to see why his knees are bad. We'll see on the health part. I'm hoping he stays healthy. The game ins't the same when he's gone. But I agree he can't quite practice and hit balls constantly like he used be able to and thats not a great thing when your going through a revamp of your golf swing but I'm convinced he'll find a way.

I am hoping he stays healthy as well, but i just don't see it to be honest.

He seems to consistently be injured in past 3 years.

People are talking about how his personnel stories has set him back. The reality is his injuries has gotten so much worse recently, and is the real reason why he is playing the way he is.

He has gone through so many injuries in the past 2 years. In most sports, People will announce retirement.

I agree with the gist of this post. Its golf not most sports though so I do think he can stay healthy. And it wasn't just the injuries. That was probably the biggest part of why he was struggling but the swing change played a big role as well. He got into some bad habits with Hank Haney. He lost all of his power with Hanks philosophy. All he could hit off the tee was a weak fade. Matter of fact his go to shot was a weak fade. He's gotten his power back now. He was leading the tour in total driving not to long ago. He's hitting the ball much straighter now which will take some time getting used to. Its about visualizing shots and when you've visualized moving the ball quite a bit for years then you start to hit it straight you have to learn to visualize straighter ball flights. I'm saying all this to illustrate that the swing change played a large role as well. As of right now he has his health back and he's starting to hit the ball better. Next comes confidence and then putts start to fall.

Obviously health in any aspect of life is a tough thing to predict but I do however think he can stay healthy by being more dilligent with it than he has in the past.
