WTF are our young men goin thru?

  • I had made a reference to My Little Ponies in the "Was 9/11 a hoax?" thread and it reminded me of a really weird and down right creepy cult deal going on.
    Have any of you heard of the Bronies movement recently?

    The way i understand it, young dudes, 16-21 or so are obsessing over My Little Ponies. They are rocking MLP shirts, back packs, lunch boxes, and even carrying around the actual MLP toys. They are even having "Bronie" conventions. Seriously? What the hell?!? I mean what the F*@K???

    Now I'm 34 and could probably name 8-10 ponies but I also have a 7 year old daughter and they are her favorite cartoon and toy along with Barbie. I know em because she keeps me on the lookout pr the ones she doesn't have, which can't be many if any at this point...yeah I'm wrapped. Lol.

    Anyway, back to the topic at hand, seriously WTF are these guys going thru? Talk about a serious absence of a man in their lives. LMWAO

    Its become a variety of such, strawberry shortcake and all kinds of craziness. I'm sure when I was that age older cats said the same thing about me and my generation and the things we wore and so on throughout time, but this is just weird. Kinda glad I have two girls right now. Lol

  • The backpacks are dirt cheap compares to "name brand" ones and it goes along with the counter culture of being different/absurd and standing out.

    Read some articles on gizmodo talking about the brownie movement.
    Supposedly the kids that fall in love with the MLP tend to have socialization issues and some ppl speculate that shows messages help lay out step by step how to be a "friend".

    Another thing to keep in mind, the ppl making this are the same ppl that made either the powder puff girls or dexters lab and those shows tended to draw in an older audience than expected.
