Will America ever be "truly" UNITED?

  • Is it possible?

If so, (and all left/right party BS aside)... what's it gonna take to make that happen?

"Common Sense" is key... it will require a majority of moderates from both sides, to come together in a world called "Reality", learn how to be more tolerant, give more of themselves to help others... and lead by example.

  • No. Only in tragedy like 9/11. And even then it will only be begrudgingly by some. Being United isn't good for business with Fox, Rush, Beck, Coulter, and the rest of the idiots.

  • Not with Barack Obama at the helm. He's the most divisive President in the history of this country from what I can tell. Need a true leader that can unite people. We need clear goals for this country and a clear plan to accomplish them. Certainly won't get there either with high unemployment. Where we need to be united is on improving the economy. The social issues will always be debated but they really don't matter. And I agree JJ common sense is key as is with anything including play calling. lol.

Like you have the slightest inkling what you're friggin talking about. Just a month or so ago you said you didn't know anything about politics. So you haven't learned anything. Just parroting what you hear from right wing radio dj's and righties from here. Twit. Your first sentence is the precise reason why we'll never be united. Hard righties that find honor in not compromising. I just mopped my floor. The mop is smarter than you.

  • Honestly? No. Too many people, too many ideas and too much bullish*t throughout the country. Not to mention asshats abound. You think ya'll could drop the hyperbole bs, and actually answer questions honestly without any spin, or views being backed by your beliefs? It's pathetic.

    Keep Calm & Stoops On..

You forgot Randy Maddow, Ed Schultz, Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchell, Fareed Zakaria. I could go on all night but I am sure you get the message.

You know what I do know Carl. I know people and you clearly are a bitter POS who lacks compassion for others, You are a sad little man. And I have been following politics lately mainly because the dumbass that you voted for POTUS is killing this beautiful country of ours. This is the last time I will respond to a post made by you. You clearly are more interested in attacking others than posting related to the topic started. You are lucky that the good lord still affords you the opportunity to breath.

It will happen. Unfortunately, it will probably take something bad to cause it--it usually does--war, assassination, depression.

But I'm not that pessimistic about where we are. It's been much worse. We haven't had any fist fights in Congress for a while. Very little duelling anymore. The things that divide us are generally pretty minor. We're not fighting over being in a war or over big labor issues or civil rights issues (maybe a little on the gays). It's frustrating to hear people say Obama (or anybody else) is "killing" this country, as in another post. If you have no more confidence in your country that one man could kill, or even slow it down much, you're either not very engaged or not very informed.

  • Nobody said he would succeed.

  • "the dumbass that you voted for POTUS is killing this beautiful country of ours."

you didn't say trying to kill or wanting to kill--you said "is killing."

    djkycat54906

  • Is killing but we're not dead nor will we die. But he's trying his best.

I'm not going to get into this conversation besides posing one question, can you provide specific examples with facts that back up your claim? I'm not taking sides either way, but the underlying problems this country has is bigger than any POTUS.

The difference is the people you mentioned support what they say with facts and the people I mentioned do not.

Actually if you look at my politics or bothered reading me you'd see I'm very compassionate and my politics are driven by compassion for the poor, the old, and the sick. Unlike your politics that focus on making it better for the rich on the back of the people I care about.

You've been following partisan hacks with more mindless rhetoric than common sense or intelligence.

The "dumbass" I voted for graduated magna cum laude at Harvard Law School and was editor of the Harvard Law Review. Viewd by even his enemies as a bright and intelligent person. Where did you go to school?

He isn't killing it. He saved it from a full fledged depression actually.

I'm glad you won't be responding to me any more considering your responses are just regurgitated nonsense. It's ironic you say I attack people when the last week all you've done is attack me in every post when I haven't attacked anyone.

You know nothing of the Lord or his works.

I'd say the Wisconsin thing was definitely a big labor issue. The right trying to strip away collective bargaining for public workers is a pretty big deal. Of course the right has already won the labor war. It's why the middle class has all but disappeared. Well not the only reason but I'd say the biggest. I'd also say the voter suppression the right are trying is a racial issue. They are doing all they can to keep the blacks and the young away from the polls.

SO the DNC was trying to keep that blacks and the young away from the convention?

Good point on labor. I was thinking more about times when many labor negotiations resulted in violence with no government intervention. The argument now may not seem civil, but it is by comparison.

That's a pretty weak comparison. I don't know much about Schultz, but the rest are serious journalists. The ones Carl mentioned are partisan clowns.

There are good journalists and columnists on the right: Will, Hume, Krauthamer, Kristol--I don't agree with them, but they're serious about their jobs and it would be just as big an insult to compare their work to the likes of Beck or Rush.

MSNBC commentators are just as big of homers as the FOX news people you all dislike.

Yeah, I get what you mean. It's not the early Hoffa Sr days where they actually literally fought for workers rights.

  • When have we been united in this country? 2nd world war and space race? I don't know of any othertimes that we were truly united. Even during the revolutionary war we were deeply split. We were somewhat united during the cold war. I don't think it's so much leadership as it is the villian. FDR and JFK were charismatic enough to bring us together during those times, but the situation was ripe for people to be led and brought together. I'm not saying anyone could've done it, because that isn't true, but it was probably 40/60 leadership/circumstances. We have no arch enemy now except each other.

9/11 united us for a few weeks. That's the most united we've been in my lifetime.

  • I don't even know if it was "a few weeks." And I'm not sure that was true union. I guess maybe it was for the public. Gov't was just posturing but what else is new.
