Rupp Arena has hosted some of the nation’s best collegiate players in its storied history, but could soon have its most talented collection of players ever grace the floor.
No fewer than 11 current National Basketball Association players, including eight former Kentucky stars, are slated to appear in an exhibition that will pit the Dominican Republic National Team against a squad of the former Cats. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15.
John Calipari’s post as head coach of the Dominican team helped bring the unique game to Lexington, where his stature as Kentucky’s head coach surely helped influence a bevy of former Cats to agree to play. It will serve as preparation for the FIBA Americas Championship and Olympic Qualifying Tournament for the Dominican team, and an opportunity for the former Cats to remain in shape during the current NBA lockout.
Eric Bledsoe, Keith Bogans, DeMarcus Cousins, Jodie Meeks, Nazr Mohammed, Tayshaun Prince, Rajon Rondo and John Wall are tentatively expected to play for the former UK team, while Francisco Garcia, Al Horford and Charlie Villanueva will suit up for the Dominicans.
Tickets for the event will become available Monday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. ET on ticketmaster.com or by calling the Rupp Arena box office at (859) 233-3535. Tickets range from $15 per seat for upper-level seating, to $35 per seat for lower-level seating, $100 per person for VIP seats.
